Keep in mind that the guy who chased Shep down is a former UGA player, that even started some games there, that runs a 4.4 40 and had an angle on Shep.

Didn't realize this, but I was just about to post that I thought Towson had some suprisingly good atheletes. The guy that caught him definitely had the angle, and he had some wheels of his own.

The OP is ridiculous but something worth pointing out is that this was a huge play and no one on the team seemed to show any excitement really. Just kind of shows how flat they were throughout the game. If that had been against an SEC team you would have seen a lot more emotion.

Only Russell Shepard can score on a long TD run and get criticized for it

Randy Moss' off season workouts were legendary with Chris Carter back in his Viking days. Nobody here knows what his work ethic is. I would suggest you don't play 15 years in the NFL with a poor work ethic, in fact, as competitive as the NFL is, what seperates the Great ones IS their work ethic. Moss was great.

Quitting on plays is sort of on topic. Moss is notorious for doing just that.

...hmmmm.. I guess the fact he had run nearly 80 yds couldn't POSSIBLY mean he was running just a tad out of gas ... nah ... hell , a real player would have been SPEEDIN UP after sprinting 60-70 yds, huh ... oh , and that DB that caught him just at the goal - he didn't have the pursuit angle accross the field on him or anything , huh ...

Why would he pull up so soon and allow a defender to catch him?

Anyone blame Les Miles yet? This is obviously his fault for not implementing hustle.

It was a counter play. No, the exchange was not supposed to look exactly like that, but close.

The real beauty of the play is the blocking/scheme. Watch the defenders bite right. Watch the seals. The pulls. It was a thing of beauty.

I saw no pull up.

That dude had an angle.

I'm sure he was getting tired. His stride looks like it was increasing toward the end of the run. This is a sign of getting tired and you increase stride length to compensate.

everyone is critical of shep because he is not percy harvin. shep has made more LONG, EXPLOSIVE plays at LSU than any other player in the les miles era and he does it with minimal touches. no, he doesn't have great hands but we need to get him 5+ touches a game. we need explosive plays

Man Shepard can't catch a break from some of you can he. Makes a 78 yard touchdown run and still gets criticized. Almost every Tiger that made a long run last year did the same thing. Mathieu did it on his punt return and the punter almost caught him. Of course there is the time he threw the ball to the ref before he crossed the line. Wing of course not only slowed down but got the touchdown nullified with his gesture. Okay so that one wasn't Brad's fault but the ref being an a-hole.

But get this straight once and for all. Shepard is a good player who gives his all. If he was over-hyped or he has under produced so be it. But it is not for lack of trying. How many other Tigers have had as many long touchdown runs as him?

How many touches has he gotten? Have we even ever given him a chance as a running back? Have we ever let him throw a pass? After all he was recruited as a quarterback. So you want to go after someone? Go after Les, he has underutilized him and not given him enough ways to show his versatility. Because that's what he really is - a utility back who can do many things. He really is not a receiver.

In watching this great run by RS it seems he pulls up a tad around the 30 yard line

There is no evidence of that in the video. The fact that the defender caught up with him merely suggests that the defender is fast and took a good angle.

It feeds my suspicion that RS is a great football player who is not giving 100%

Yeah, that's why he dove into the endzone...because he didn't really care if he scored.

Secondly, if you can't see the slight pull up around the 30 yard line then you are not looking close enough.

You are seeing what you want to see, man.

I'll tell you exactly why it looks like he pulls up: he turns his head and starts looking at the defenders around the 30 yd line. Any runner will slow when doing that. Also, his stride looks obviously tired around the 15yd line.

If you want a great example of how to keep your head forward and outrun the D on a long run, see Jamal Charles' run against the Saints. He didn't look back for a second. I wish he had

I dont think he thought he was gonna get caught. He looked over his right shoulder and saw himself pulling away from everybody. maybe he pulled up tad but not enough to question his work ethic. The defender had a great angle on him and when he saw him gaining ground he made a great effort to get in the endzone. all in all it was a good run
