Back in those days if he had gone somewhere Oregon he would’ve been a monster in the spread/RPO offense
But he probably got a lot more well rounded as an NFL player by coming here

Of the opportunity to play receiver in an offense that would showcase his abilities? The dude went undrafted. That was a huge miss and it should not have been that way for him.
As much as we would agree that the offense should have been more modern back then, there were some things about Shep during his time at LSU that got noticeable.
His hands were not exactly the greatest.
He was not good at breaking tackles at the RB position.

Shep could have never played as a collegiate QB .
But Devin White would have played and played well as a collegiate RB. He picked the right position, however, at LB.
There is a lot of revisionism going on here. Les did the right thing moving RS to receiver. He had no other position that permitted him on the field.
The only criticism i see which is valid is that LSU did not get him the ball enough.

He picked a great time to retire.

Didn’t seem to hurt the other guys in the WR room during that time.

Yeah I meant that more as in like the staffs had no plans of those players actually playing those positions. Just holding up recruiting promises
Devin white was always going to be a LB here, but we promised him a shot at RB to secure that commitment. Same thing with Shep.

our WR1 and WR2 during Shep's time were by and large high round draft picks (Lafell, Randle, Jarvis, Odell... Toliver was the notable exception). so it's not like there wasn't opportunity if he made it into that group, he just never did.

Anything to praise LES.... pathetic.....

He made 9.3 Million in contracts in 6 years. Not a bad living. Best of luck to him.

I don't think anyone is praising Les as much as saying it wasn't Les's fault like most want to blame. Russell Shepard had a lot of really good WRs to beat out and didn't. People want to blame Les for underutilizing him which doesn't make sense when you look at the WRs we had.

Your math is off, he's made just over 9.3 million. Still an incredible amount of money for a 30 year old whose about to start a new career.
Probably got $5.4 million after taxes and spent $200,000 per year. He probably has $4 million left.

I'm not sure that's true. Shep wanted to play QB, Les tried him out there to start. he wasn't better than our other QB options (which is saying something). so he was moved to WR, and got touches as a RB/ all purpose back.
While I mostly agree with you the fact that les didn't let him throw ONE pass in his whole career here has always irked me. Not even in a gadget play. C'mon man, Spencer ware can throw a pass but shep can't? Dude was a class act through the whole ordeal, thow the man a bone,or better yet, let him thow it...
Anyway, good for shep. Glad to see him succeed.

, he should get a chance to throw a pass to one of his children in front of the LSU crowd…
Might have to wait till the next governors election before that's even a possibility.

Does he own a waste management company? Lol
Doesn't he look like an old 30?

Best thing that happened to him was Les converting him to WR
He shouldn’t have went to LSU, though

RS was and is a great Tiger. Regardless of how things were handled at LSU he is a millionaire:

I wish him nothing but the best in the future.
