Eh idk if he ever really had a position.

He was fast and athletic but not a great WR and not big enough to Be a RB.

Apparently he couldn’t throw.

I am Glad he had this great career in the pros but idk what we could have done with him at LSU

Besides run a frick ton of jet sweeps. Shepard would have beeb drafted in the first three rounds if he played for Canada.

And he just had a long NFL career where he didn't play QB. Perhaps Les was onto something

I'll never forget seeing him in a High school football skills competition on ESPN or something before he got on campus. It was then I realized that he probably wouldn't be playing QB at LSU. Doesn't mean I didn't root for him to get a shot. Especially considering the alternatives at that time. I also remember him coming in at QB vs La. Tech in 09 with LSU struggling and the crowd going crazy. And then he just ran the wildcat all night lol.

Obligatory damn you, Les.

Russell should wake up every morning and thank Les for moving him to WR. That move gave him a chance to play in the NFL

So should Terrelle Pryor be pissed that Jim Tressel kept him at QB?

Shep had a helluva career in the pros. Played longer than a lot of players that out-shined him in college.

Very happy for him. He was coming in the year after I started at LSU, and I remember being so hype to see him on campus.

Congrats Shep!!!

Yep, Les Miles fed talent to the NFL his whole tenure at LSU, including the number 1 overall pick, but this one time, in this one case, he decided to ruin a player by moving him to a different position.

Of course, that player had a longer NFL career at the new position than that #1 pick but evidently that is Les Miles' fault.

Check out his yards per touch. Maybe our football coach did not get the ball in his hands enough.

6.9 yards rushing per carry
9.8 yards receiving per catch

7.9 yards every time he touched the ball

10 TD's

Most of his passes were short routes

A very under used asset and a better college player than professional in my opinion.

Could have been used at QB as a change of pace and situational but Les was stubborn and did not cave into fans wanting to see him throw a pass.

Les is not dumb but he was very stubborn and did not like the fans making decisions, the Wisky game his last year he proved that he would coach his way.

I'm not sure that's true. Shep wanted to play QB, Les tried him out there to start. he wasn't better than our other QB options (which is saying something). so he was moved to WR, and got touches as a RB/ all purpose back.

I don't think Les "screwed" Shep with the position stuff, as much as the OC switch from Crowton hurt Shep's touches. and other WRs were just better. Shep was more likely to get some screens and sweeps in Crowton's offense. but even then, Odell/ Jarvis were better than him and probably would've overtaken him there too.

this. Also, I thought it was clear he was a 5-star "athlete", not QB.

Your math is off, he's made just over 9.3 million. Still an incredible amount of money for a 30 year old whose about to start a new career.

Shep was never going to be a QB

Just like Devin White was never going to be a RB
