We had OBJ, Landry, and Randle. Why would we need to utilize a guy less talented then what we had? A HS highlight tape?

Landry barely played on offense in Shep's junior season and neither he nor OBJ were there his first two years. Landry only had 4 catches the entire season in 2011. Shepard was actually the 3rd leading receiver on the team in 2011, but because of Miles' incompetence, that only resulted in 14 catches for 190 yards. In 2010, when he at least had guys like Randle, Tolliver, and Peterson to split targets with SHepard, he had 33 receptions for 254 yards and 32 carries for 226 yards. In 2011, he only had 7 carries the entire season and only had 20 in 2012. You're correct in that he wasn't as talented a guy as Percy Harvin; however, there's no reason to believe, with a modern offense in college, Shepard couldn't have gotten somewhere around 1000 yards from scrimmage. Les, in his stubborn ways, just had no idea how to use an athlete like him. The only credit I'll give to Les with Shepard is by using him on special teams, it gave Shep a great avenue at the NFL because he excelled on special teams and that's how he got a spot in the NFL as well at the start of his career.

so much talent so much hope and les destroyed it,

rofl, Les promised the kid he would have a shot at QB and lived up to it, giving him a few years. He simply couldn't cut it, at which point it was Les that convinced him to stay and switch to WR. That position change is what gave him his NFL Career.

My man, Shepard stopped getting reps at QB in the middle of his freshman season and none in games (unless we're counting wildcat plays where it was a called run from the start). He didn't get "a few years." I have no problem with that because he never would have played QB at LSU, but let's not pretend he was given three years of development at the position. He had fall practice and half a season getting QB reps at practice.

No you are supporting my case! Landry hardly saw the field. Criticizes Miles’ offense all you want! It was terrible. But if we go to more WRs Landry gets on the field or other WRs. I get Miles offense was bad. I don’t get the narrative he held Shep back. Even with a pass happy offense. Shep ended his pro career with stats uber talented dudes do in a 12 games, average guys do in a year. You look at Sheps career, he is what he is, a good guy, hard worker, positive influence in the locker room and can give you a great play here and there. He did in the pros exactly what Miles got out of him. I’m not a Miles fan, i just don’t get this narrative. Shep was a great Tiger and a great pro! But not a guy Miles did wrong...IMO

Shepard got on the field at WR more than Landry did, despite us not running 4 wide sets (or 3 wide sets very often)

Well, I can't help you there. It's obvious to anyone that watched or understands how to use athletes like him. Miles didn't, and it doesn't appear you understand either.

What Shepard did in the NFL is irrelevant to what he could have done in college. It's a completely different game. There are plenty of VERY productive college players that aren't suited do replicate that play in the NFL. Oregon has had plenty of guys like that. In an up-tempo, read option spread offense, Shep would have been very dangerous at the college level. But, like I said, Miles had no idea how to use a player like that because he was the opposite of innovative on that side of the ball.

And this shows he tried to give Shepard every opportunity. I’m with you on everything about Miles’ offense. I guess we will agree to disagree one Shepard’s talent. Even in O’s offense I think Landry would’ve played over him. O giving Boutte the nod as a freshman shows he plays talent over seniority. Miles loved favoring seniority. Like I said, agree to disagree on Shepard’s talent. Shepard was a hustle guy that just got a 5* rating.

Your argument is all over the place and you’re making conflicting statements while still failing to grasp that different positions can be used differently. In 2010 as the 3rd WR he caught just as many balls as Randle so how did he waste his opportunity? We know Landry was always a better WR so your argument that Shepard just wasn’t good enough fails because of the fact that he was ahead of Landry at one point. You also still don’t recognize that nobody is saying he was an elite WR. The argument is that he could’ve been used as a satellite/multi use slot/rb to take pressure off of the passing game and give us another option which could’ve taken pressure off the run game.
