Ultimately, the only arms we have available are Reynolds, Bain, Bush, Beck, Newman and Hess.

We really have zero room for error here. This will be pitched like a mid-week game, and Poche' will likely have to carry us 6 or 7 innings tomorrow night.

Yeah I forgot to add that he was hurt.

He was certainly drafted on talent and not on production He certainly had a gift when he made it to campus.

Think of where we would be if he had worked out.

I'm going to assume you're trolling, but if not, it's pretty simple:

Walker is out due to injury.
Gilbert is out due to recently pitching.
Peterson is out due to injury.
Lange is out due to recently pitching.

That leaves Poche, Reynolds, or a host of short relief guys.

We need to win 1 of the next 2 games to set up Lange to win the series. So your options are:

Option #1:
Game 1: Poche on 4 days rest vs. Singer (their #2 guy)
Game 2: Reynolds + Wholestaff vs. Kowar (their #3)

- OR -

Option #2:
Game 1: Reynolds + Wholestaff vs. Singer (their #2 guy)
Game 2: Poche on 5 days rest vs. Kowar (their #3)

Option #2 gives you the best possible outcome to get to Game 3.

Serious question, have you watched any LSU baseball this year?

Walker is hurt. Poche, Gilbert and Lange are not available. Hess and Newman are closers. Peterson has a sore arm.

Who among the guys we have left would you start? Could not a good case be made against anyone of them for not starting?

He thinks Reynolds is the one least likely to succumb to the pressure. We will see.

We have to win 2 games. I'd rather take my chances with wholestaff and have a relatively rested Lange and Poche for games 2&3

Reynolds has his chance to put his name in LSU baseball history.

Expectation is "Wholestaff". Thus, many pitchers MAY throw a few innings. The 5th Year senior was going to throw a couple. So, let him start the game because he is more mature to handle the pressure.

IF he is "lights out" (relatively) Then, let him stay in. But, it is better to have the calm of an older dude take the first few innings than younger options.

That is what I got from the coach's explanation.

This. And he gives no fricks, which makes him least likely to cave under the pressure of starting in a championship game.

Because Gilbert, Lange, Poche, Walker, Hess are all unavailable.

Our options are a wee bit limited.

Expect to see a combo of Reynolds, Bush, Bain, Beck and Newman in some order.

Also it has been said that PM went to the Bullpen and asked who wanted the ball tonight. Reynolds spoke up immediately and loud and said he wanted the ball.

In this situation you don't want to push someone out there, you give the ball to the guy who wants it and says so emphatically and without doubting himself.

Because CPM asked who wanted the ball and Renyolds was the first guy to step up.

Hopefully the guys around him step up as well and give him run support. If we steal this game with Johnny Wholestaff, I really like our chances.

You really think if we have a 1 or 2 run lead in the 9th, Hess ain't running out there to shut it down?

This could be the big decision that Mainieri might have to make...and I hope he has to make it. Hess really probably could use an extra day off, but I would have a hard time not throwing him in the 9th with a 1 run lead, unless Newman happens to already be in there doing a good job. Don't sleep on Newman just because he had a bad game last Monday.

And wasn't Hess the one Mainieri said he was afraid to take out of the game or something like a week ago because he feared for his life or something??

I wouldn't use Hess tonight unless you absolutely had to. I mean do or die.

I would guess Reynolds is as fresh as it gets. But I would like to see Bain get the start.
