Running clock was supposed to speed up the game. TV timeouts KILLED THAT.

Truly amazing last night.

One team scored a TD/kicks Extra point - 3 min TV time out.

Kick off/ received. -3 min TV time out

It was truly remarkable how many back to back tv timeouts there were.

So following an extra point play and a subsequent kick off there was over 6 mins in down time.

2 plays of maybe 15 seconds of live action and 6 mins of time outs.

Insanity.

It was to speed the game up so they could add more commercials. That’s the entire point.

It was never meant to speed up the game. It was meant to sell more ads and get more money from sponsors to grow the ever expanding TV rights contracts and to outbid others in those contract negotiations.

It worked how they wanted. Less football more commercials.

Uh, it wasn’t to speed up the game. It was to decrease the amount of football so that more commercials could be added. The game is becoming unwatchable.

No doubt it is a ton of commercials, but the game was definitely shorter than it would have been before the rules changed. If I remember correctly, this game was only a little over three hours, whereas games like this were lasting nearly four hours before.

Same model the NFL adopted with timeouts after kickoffs a decade ago yet it’s the most if not second most (NBA?) profitable sport in America for the networks. Fans bitch but they don’t turn it off.

The one that killed me was at the end of the game… extra point, commercial… kick the ball off, commercial

I record the games. Frequently starting them 30 minutes to an hour late. Fast forward through commercials and halftime. Usually caught up by the end of the game.

The only trick there is not accidentally looking down at your phone and seeing an update, or a text from someone about the score.

So for me last night the game seemed much faster, since I was only watching the football part.
