Rumor that Crews doesn’t want to play for the Pirates

Reportedly they are offering 1 Million under the value for the 1/1 pick, and Crews agent has some history with Pittsburgh. Wyatt Langford might end up being 1/1 and Crews goes 1/2 to Washington.

MLB draft is so odd sometimes. People really will pass on generational talents to save a few bucks

Pirates are good now but how long will that last?

Not wanting to play for the Pirates is different than not wanting to take a $1MM haircut on the bonus.

Not a good organization. Very cheap with everything they do. Think Bengals before Zac Taylor got there.

They're not "saving" the money. It would just be spent on someone else.
Every team spends at least their draft pool money and in most cases go 5% over.

Rumor before that draft was Joe Burrow didn’t want to play for the Bengals either. How did that work out?

And yet that still has nothing to do with this conversation.

Crews coming to Washington
Bout to launch some Crews missiles

His agent is Scott Boras, one of the toughest negotiators in the business & the Pirates' owner is one of the league's cheapest owners. If you noticed, when Crews was talking about checking off all the boxes, being the #1 pick was not mentioned. He knows he'll get the contract he deserves.

Might be a dumb question, but if Crews were to fall to 1/2 in this case, wouldn't he get just about the same as taking the cut from the pirates?

This has nothing to do with how the draft is handled.
Why do people keep repeating this like it bears any relevance?

He shouldn’t want to play for Washington either

I've seen buzz around the HS kid Max Clark lately. Supposedly willing to sign underslot a good bit to be the 1 overall. That would throw a curveball into it all. The teams after the pirates have to be loving it though.
