If players don't want to play for LSU then GEAUX ! I hope they stick it out and see who new coach is but kids these days Don't like to wait. Maybe Corey Raymond does need to be interim coach or somebody but

I'd point out here that just because somebody puts himself in the portal it doesn't mean he's leaving.
Hire a new coach who doesn't suck like the current coach does, and it might have a magnetic effect in reclaiming players from the portal.
There are still people out there who are sore that Orgeron was fired. This phenomenon really should put an end to that. LSU's locker room has been pure poison ever since the national championship; people just refused to see the truth until the UCLA loss.

Sorry, this is 100% on Woodward. There's no reason to fire your coach, then turn around and give them back their autonomy for another 6 weeks.
Eds already been terminated, this is not his doing.

Those of you who think this, please explain how you at all in the slightest think this is possible, especially with a name or even quality coach?
When is the last time you have ever seen a university announce a new hire for a fired coach during the middle of a season without it being someone already on staff?
Hell, even if he were to hire someone like Napier from an obviously lower tier program like ULL, he still would not be able to announce any earlier than the end of the season. Napier would not be okay with doing that to his current team, which is having a good season.

Those guys make the least amount of sense. They are starters next year which will be their “money year”. Transferring does not really help them.

Why? Who fires a coach midseason and retains him for the entire season? WTF how in the hell does this help recruiting? It ruins a recruiting class and with the portal now players can melt and say frick it if they fired my coach I am leaving also. Woodward has handled this terribly. Firing should have happened at the end of season and a new hire within a week or 2.

You can bet that coaches throughout the country are reaching out (through backchannels, of course) to several players "inquiring" as to their thoughts about transferring. Just because this coaching staff, overall, isn't very good, doesn't mean there still aren't great players on the roster other teams would love to have. This is the world of coaching changes in the "transfer portal" age. Tennessee had a mass exodus after firing their coach last season. And that roster wasn't as talented as LSU's.
If LSU has a new HC in place soon after the regular season ends, then that coach will have a chance to stop the bleeding. The question is can LSU get a high demand coach to agree to come it at that time? Maybe not, considering most high demand coaches will still have a meaningful (at least to them) left to play past January.
There is rarely a good time to change staffs. The transfer portal coupled with the early signing deadline just makes it much, much more difficult. LSU fans should hope for the best, but probably prepare for some big names to leave.

One thing that needs to be mentioned, just because a guy enters the portal doesn't mean he transfers. If you have uncertainty, which we certainly do, it's probably smart to put your name in the portal and keep that option open.

The worst thing you can do is fire a coach, make it public, then have him be a lame duck the rest of the season. It does absolutely nothing for the program.
Either fire him, or announce it when the season is over. This is some middling way that accomplishes nothing.

It’ll be fine. Just bc they enter their names into the portal doesn’t mean they can’t come back once Scotty announces a badass coach
