What pitchers (exluding Ott, Ranaudo, and Coleman) do we have that are better than him?

The score was 4-2 until SU made some late errors. SU also left 10 people on base and had the bases loaded several times during that game.

SU has beaten San Diego State and Southeastern which were both in the top 50 when SU beat them. Plus SU had San Diego beat when they were in the top 10 but left the bases loaded in the 9th.

They "were" in the Top 50? That means nothing else other than they aren't as good as thought.

SDSU's offense is one of the worst in the nation, and outside of Strasburg their pitching is garbage too.

The fact is that Southern couldn't beat its way out of a wet paper bag when they're playing a good team. 4 wins in the Top 200. That's pathetic.

SU obviously isn't a SEC caliber team, but they can beat one on any given day.

to be fair, 98% of teams in college baseball can do this

Yes, I did watch it. Point?

SU has beaten 4 teams in the Top 100. 0 teams in the Top 50.

Do you understand odds?

The probability of ISR #156 beating ISR #5 is well under 1%. Certainly not impossible, but I'm not losing any sleep over it.

I do agree that Bradshaw has perhaps earned this start. He's looked better than Ross of late.

I'd rather start Ross for the simple reason that Bradshaw has demonstrated the ability to pitch out of the pen. It's the safer move. Bradshaw could then start if we need a fourth starter or come out and relieve if we need an inning here or there.

Do you know what sample size is? Why don't you give me a lesson in odds. I'm sure your pedigree in statistics is well above mine.

Did you also know SU played about 1/3 of the season w/o a weekend starter, its starting catcher and starting RF?

Southern's chance is that LSU would throw a midweek type of guy who just doesn't have his stuff for one reason or another and thus falls pretty far behind early. Even then, Southern's chances are at best a tossup.

go back & check - bertman would pitch a top pitcher and hope he has to go only 5 and than have him later, if needed. starter will be coleman, as he can come back later

That was in the days of 6 team regional where a pitcher would have 2 days off. Those days are gone.

I'd like to see that math.

Who is the best pitcher that Southern has faced this year?

This is a fair point. And I don't have a problem with Ross starting by any stretch. I was just pleasantly surprised with our "second tier" pitchers last weekend, and I wouldn't mind seeing them get some work in.

Sammy Solis is a very good pitcher. And San Diego has more business being in a regional than Baylor does.

Boyd doesn't reveal his math. The only issue I have is those numbers are from the '98 and '99 seasons, which is quite some time ago. At the same time, even a gap of as little as 35 spots in ISRs translates into a higher than 99% chance that the higher ranked team will win. So for 150 spots I can imagine the odds are so close to zero as not to merit discussion.

Edit -- let's put it this way. LSU is as much above Southern as Southern is above Coppin State. Coppin State is 0-29.

No chance of Coleman against Southern. Best case scenario, Ross starts, we get a big lead, he goes five, then HE can come back later, if needed.

Also, thanks to the thread starter for completely ignoring the other threads on this subject. What's new?

You mean the guy with the back problem that they got 1 earned run off of in six inning in the first game of the year.

Let me rephrase. What was the best pitcher Southern faced that they had some success against?
