Faulk was the best player bc he was so great in all aspects, running, receiving, and STs

Collins was the best runner

RM was a good not great all around back

KC was just a good back but clearly behind the other 3.

Faulk was a legend.

Mealey and The Diesel were above average.

Collins was a great RB.
Mealy was very good as well.
Kendall Cleveland was a lot like Darrell Williams.

Faulk... Was it the bowl game? but almost single handily beat Notre Dame when everyone else was laying an egg.

Give me Kevin Faulk, and it is not even close. Cecil Collins certainly had the potential to be up there with the most talented backs in LSU history, but that is speculation at this point. Instead, through his own fault, he became the biggest waste of talent in LSU history and maybe in the history of college football.

Right game, but it was Rondell Mealey, not Faulk who went off. Faulk left the game with injury and Mealey ran for 222 yards and was the MVP.

And to answer the OP, its clearly Faulk

For a short stretch running behind Alan Faneca, Collins was the most dominant running back to ever wear purple and gold.

Cecil was one of the best backs I've ever seen, however participation counts and that is why Kevin Faulk is hands down the best of the bunch. That doesn't even consider what Kevin Faulk meant to LSU off the field, and by that I'm talking about his signing with LSU put us back on the map of relevance.

he had a great three games against Miss State, Auburn, and Akron, but his legend has grown much bigger than it should have the past 20 years. Truth be told, there is no telling how good he actually would have been and he only played in 3 career games and a quarter here, which is an unreliable sample size to crown someone the best or even the most dominant. His game against Auburn, yes, was one of the more dominant single games a running back has had here.

The answer to the OP is Kevin Faulk and it's really not that close. And I think when this conversation comes up, people forget how talented Faulk was and how heavily recruited he was. We didn't have all the recruiting services back then, but Faulk was widely regarded as one of the top recruits in the country. Then, he showed out on the field in college and in the NFL. So to even say Collins was more talented is a bit of a stretch and speculation.

Based on pure, straight up ability? I’d say Collins. And that’s not to take away from Kevin Faulk’s greatness either, it just that Collins has always left me with that “what if” feeling. All around skills and productivity you obviously go with Faulk. As others have said Cecil Collins was probably the the biggest waste of talent in the history of LSU football. Mealy was the classic jack of all trades, master of none. He had solid all around skills but never was great at one thing so I can’t compare him to Diesel and KF. Cleveland had talent as well but was clearly behind the other 3

It’s not a legend if you saw him play first hand. He was better than Faulk. It’s a pity he was so screwed up.
