Not going to have his number retired, but he was one of the best.

I was in school during the Blanton years. Very good player, but legend? Not even close.

His grace and demeanor on the court absolutely warrant it. And his love for LSU seals it.

There is no doubt. He went from a chunky awkward guy playing center into a true sharp shooter..... def a legend at LSU.

100000% yes....- as I recall wasn’t he the glue that led to beating Kenny Sky Walker’s UK team in Cincinnati for the regional finals in ‘88?

Absolutely! It's not always about stats. He was great leader and good kid. You gotta have kids like that in your program.

The tourney run to final four was legendary
Especially the players he went up against
Also that year with him and cj was better than the next year with Shaq as a fr

That's pretty freaking disrespectful to Ricky. Rudy was some lying scrub who got in for a couple plays. Blanton is all of the place in LSU basketball record books and got drafted.

Look, I meant it as a compliment
No matter what his stats are, they're still no indication of his HEART. Ricky Blanton to me is the epitome of a Champion's Heart.

Hell, I guess I misunderstood what Rudy was supposed to represent. I hate Notre Dame enough that I never bothered to watch the movie. I assumed he was supposed to be inspirational

Didn’t Don Redden play during Blanton period?

They overlapped a season or so. I understood that Ricky always looked up to Don like a big brother.

Redden was more of a classic offensive guy, a shooter who also could make some nice passes.
Blanton was more of "whatever you need me to do, I will".

I loved the way Blanton bonded with CJ that year they played together. You could tell Chris really respected him; he could be dominating a game but he'd always make a few passes to make sure Ricky got his. There was a half-court bounce pass that I've always remembered.

Yeah I vote for legend, I was about 10-14 years old which makes his career more meaningful to me. The undersized Freshman Center story was legendary by itself.

I remember getting mad at ESPN during his 1st or 2nd year in the NBA. They were asking if he was the worst player in NBA history. He had a bad game and missed a couple of easy shots. Probably no talent Charlie Steiner.

Yes, he was the definition of a team player and gave everything he had for each game.

so that’s all that’s required to be a legend?!?
