Would I would really like to see them do is make that area into a rec center so kids on that side of campus do not have to go all the way to the urec

The only problem with that is that LSU is already starting to plan to renovate the existing UREC, with all the budget cuts currently in place its highly unlikely that the HN'sIC would be willing to fund two rec projects at once.

I cleaned that pool out twice in the late 90s because they thought they were going to reopen it. Awesome space. shite i think i may have a set of keys to it. Thought if it opened it wouldnt be a bad place to late night at.

I think part of the master plan was renovate the field house into a UREC for that side of campus and then build a new field house, however I think it got axed.

Love to see that happen

My father was a lifeguard there during the summers when he played football for LSU

I swam there during my lunch break when I was a research associate
Great pool!

I think the best thing would be to renovate it so that the KIN department could actually use the building, and not have to have classes in the Rec and stuff like that. There is no reason to have all that wasted space.

If they want a rec on that side of campus, they should use the carl maddox field house, and they should build a new indoor facility for the track team.

I also heard it was deemed to expensive to renovate. I have been in there in the past few years and the pool is overflowing with garbage and shite people have thrown in it.

The building including the pool is on the historic registry so it's not like they can tear down the pool and build something else. There have been a number of "feasibility studies" done to determine the cost to renovate the space and of course cost has been a barrier. With the consistent growth of Kines students each year, there is talk for a two-stage $$$ campaign. Stage one would raise money to renovate the racketball courts into classroom/office/lab space and stage two would be the pool. Nothing will happen until the College of Human Sciences and Education comes online in July, and then it is a big fat ??? if it will actually get off the ground after that.

That'll happen when Bobby Jindal raises taxes in order to fund LSU and makes higher education in Louisiana a priority.

In other words, never.
