They don’t. They were on here bragging about it being the right move just because we won the regional. With their logic Jay didn’t make one bad decision throughout the entire season just because we won a natty.

That winners bracket game with Oregon State was as nail biting as it gets.

There was also a long rain delay after it started (on top of being ppd. a day) so Skenes would have been burned after 3 innings like Floyd.

The OP and the majority of this thread think it’s smart to hit on 18 if you get a 3

It worked out because the marble game wound up with a 3 hour rain delay so Skenes would have only pitched 3 innings or whatever Floyd pitched vs Oregon St.

What I find odd is how many people keep insisting it was the wrong decision based solely on 2 factors ("Skenes is the best" and "Tulane won 18 games/they sucked"), when Johnson himself has specifically mentioned other factors that go into the analysis, including the weather, as you mentioned, and saving bullpen arms. It's like they think Jay Johnson picked up his bracket a couple of days before and glanced at the Tulane matchup and thought, "I guess we need to pitch Skenes because there's no way we beat Tulane without him," when the correct analysis would have been, "well he's the best pitcher in baseball and they've only won 18 games, and there's absolutely no possible reason to consider any other factor in the world; he's the best and their record is 18-whatever -- no other data can be relevant!"

It's just dumb.

When has any team lost to the worst team in tournament history?

First of all, people (ie coaches) much smarter than you disagree with your assessment of the Tulane team that rolled into BR (regardless of their record). Having said that, many teams who were considered dogs have defeated the #1 seed. Happens every year.

Looking at how well Floyd pitched the last 4 weeks, do you seriously think he would have lost to Tulane?

We won’t know bc it w didn’t happen. Your contention that Floyd would have defeated Tulane is conjecture. Nothing more. What I can tell you for an unarguable fact is Paul Skeens did not lose to Tulane.

I know you were at the Box for that regional and feel that you’re “in the know”; however, your opinion was greatly tarnished after you told us JJ ruined the atmosphere by coercing the umpires to initiate a rain delay and causing all of the fans to leave, never to return. If this opinion is representative of all your opinions, then you can understand why you’re it taken seriously.

Jay Johnson never mentioned weather as a reason to start Skenes against Tulane, and it was never brought up until we had the rain delay on Saturday, a day after Skenes had pitched. Weather was not a factor in the decision to pitch Skenes vs Tulane.

As for saving bullpen arms, we could save arms in game 2 when Skenes pitches at least into the 8th against Oregon State.

Jay Johnson has a must-win series the first weekend of 2024 season. He's on the hot seat fr.

And for all the grief Coach Jay took for his rotation management, when push came to shove and we were down to one game for all the marbles, he had Hurd and Skenes lined up and ready to go.

Yes. The data is conclusive. Skenes pitched. LSU won. They advanced. EOS.

It ended up working out but it was still the wrong move in my opinion.

I also wasn’t overly upset he did it.

Here’s an interesting piece of data: there’s only one national champion, and it’s LSU
