“(The line judge) said he'd be killed if he would have blown the whistle for the play being stopped,” Kiffin said, “even though it appeared to be stopped.”
quote:
Once the score was allowed, Kiffin began pleading LSU’s case to the game’s officiating crew. His main objection to the call, he told reporters on Sunday, was that the circumstances of the play shouldn’t matter. If the officials would’ve ruled that LSU had stopped Minchey’s progress, say, on a first down at midfield, then they should do the same on the goal line. “Don’t not blow it because it was such a big play,” Kiffin said.

Officials also decided that Kentucky coach Will Stein had called timeout before one of his players jumped offsides on the two-point conversion attempt that eventually decided the game.
quote:
Kiffin said that decision was “really upsetting to me,” in part because he “struggled” to communicate with the officials all game. He does not think that the Wildcats would’ve tried the two-point conversion had they been flagged for a false start. But Kiffin’s bigger gripe was with the touchdown Kentucky scored in the waning seconds of the first half. “The rules are the rules,” Kiffin said, “so if you see it that way, then see it that way. That's my complaint with it. It all comes down to just blowing the whistle, so it is what it is.”

In other words, they said the quiet part out loud.

I guess the “too much at stake” part was for one team. Got it SEC.

It’s kinda hard to overstate how bad this is.
I think we’ve all quietly been waiting for eye rolling moments to occur at the hands of Sankey’s crew, and boy they came in a hurry Saturday night.
The disgusting part is it STILL shouldn’t have mattered. We left in the hands of Sankey’s refs and that’s the part that is tough to swallow.
It’ll be really interesting to see how games are officiated from here on out.

so... he's admitting corruption?
His superiors (SEC officials) would have been upset with him if blew the play dead before Kentucky could score?

So, Lane says that the official said that?
Why should we take Lane at his word?

Regardless on what you believe, his progress was stopped for quite a long time. It’s not really disputable

The mic also picked up Seaton saying the ref flipped the coin or something at the start of OT coin toss for what it's worth. Who knows what he meant

The sec is welcome to dispute it

quote:This quote makes Kiffin an even bigger pussy for not going for it knowing forward progress would be on his side
Lane Kiffin says a ref told him Kentucky’s tush push TD wasn’t blown dead (for a lack of forward momentum) because too much was at stake in that moment.
