At the very least, I hope we don't waste him in mop up roles.
I believe he's a good QB with a really good arm. If he could just gain that weight.
Also like the fact that JB will be helping him throughout the season because I'm not sure we have anybody better to help him develop to the next level.

and he has to come out for a play?

Do you think they would send in Brennan to sling it downfield? Run the 3rd string out there to hand off to Brosette just like Brennan would. Or if you don't want to do that, work some wildcat/direct snap stuff just in case. Now, if it's more than your one play scenario, and you need somebody to fill in for multiple series or finish a game, then obviously he loses the RS.

No need. If he’s a good qb, he won’t stay here 5 years. No point. Let him play and if he gets 1 year as a starter, be Matt Flynn esque.

Yes, unless Burrow gets injured or sucks, Brennan will redshirt.

He can play in up to 4 games and still redshirt.

2018 Burrow
2019 Burrow
2020 Brennan
2021 Brennan

Well he can play up to 4 gsmes and still RS. So that’s enough to get reps but not lose a year. ? Is will he stay focused and work hard on gaining weight

This.

If MB is starting as a 5th year senior, then both he and LSU likely fell short of expectations.

Yea like when Flynn or mett we’re starting as 5th year seniors. We sucked those years. I can also give you about 29 other examples of 5th year qbs playing great

God our fan base is full of morons.

You won't get through a football season without having to play your backup WB. We have no other serviceable Qb on the roster. I will be surprised if they can keep his RS.

ETA: If McMillon or Narcisse stay, I'd have given this a much better chance of happening.

Serviceable? Andre Sale has 10X as many game snaps under his belt as Brennan, McMillan and Narcisse combined.

I hope he redshirts. We're set at QB for four years if he does.

Convincing a kid to take a redshirt when he's perfectly healthy and played the year before is a tough sell.

It's probably ideal for the program, but unlikely.

Why the hell was this such an unpopular post?

It's completely factual. There aren't a ton of examples of healthy players taking a redshirt outside of their freshman year.

MB seemed happy and not pissed while on the sideline. I have always had the impression that MB is a team player and would be ok with red shirting if we need him to rs.

Think it would be a good thing to try and get another year of eligibility for MB by redshirting this year. He can still get some game reps here and there while (hopefully) adding more weight. Assuming Burrow comes back next year Brennan will only get one year of opportunity as the starter if he doesn't redshirt this year.

It's a delicate situation, but I'm sure Orgeron already has a plan in place.

It's what all the fans and writers want, but it's too hard to predict. We'll have to see.

Well, I could see him being open to redshirting. This is Burrow's team, same as it was Etling's last year.

Completely makes sense that he do what he can to gain that extra season- that would give him 2 as the probable starter, with experience in the program and a legit arm.

We need to get away from the mindset that everyone needs to leave after 3 seasons- a QB gets better with more practice. He could be great right off the bat, but will still be better the more he learns.
Now, if you're a stud prospect at a position with a short lifespan, by all means go early. But if a QB is good in the NFL, he's going to last a decade.

I saw a report that had Myles at 6'5'' now. If so he's still growing into his body. He already has a strong arm and it could get stronger.

Maybe true, but the redshirt rules have changed.

Him redshirting doesn’t help the 2018 team. It doesn’t help the 2019 team—in fact, could really hurt it if Burrow goes pro. It does t help the 2020 team. It only has the potential to help the 2021 team. I’d rather get him ready to play in ‘18 and ‘19 in case he’s needed and worry about 2021 when it gets here.

With the new redshirt rule, anyone think we try to save Myles unless an injury forces us to play him? Or, do we waste him on clean up roles?
What would U do ???

Hannigrif and Ott were talking about this yesterday and raised an interesting point. If they can finagle a red shirt year for Brennan this season then Burrow will play two and Brennan will have two to play. He will be the lead dog in the hunt at that time and the guy coming in next year will be right in line behind him.
If they can pull this off CEO and Slinger will have stabilized the LSU QB spot for the next 4-6 yrs...
