Reason for Nussmeier Alternating with Daniels

What was the purpose of alternating QB's in the Citrus Bowl?
I think it is brilliant move by CBK and accomplishes several things, especially when he publicly states there isn't a QB controversy for 2023 because JD5 is the starter.
-by saying JD5 is starter, there isn't a QB controversy and JD5 wants to come back and improve his stock
-But by giving Nuss so much playing time in Citrus Bowl it opens the door for competition and hangs a carrot out in front of Nuss to come back and try to take the job. Nuss is a competitor and might be willing to take that challenge.
-It also shows JD5 that there will be competition in the spring even though CBK says he is the #1 for 2023 and hopefully motivates him in the spring and summer.
-This motivates both players and keeps them onboard and he will get the max effort, study, etc out of them.
CBK wants both of them on the team in case one is injured and if one is struggling. There is no other reason for CBK to alternate series with them other than to promote competition, team vision, alignment, and show them that the best QB will be starter for 2023, so get prepared and ready.
It is the first thing I thought when Nuss came in on the 2nd series...."CBK is opening the QB competition for 2023 right now".

He earned it in the second half against Georgia

You're thinking into this way too much. JD was clearly still not 100% in the Purdue game. That's it.
Nuss may surpass him or earn a 2 QB system by fall but as of now, JD is definitely his guy.

Maybe CBK got tired of watching Daniels stand in the pocket for 5+ seconds waiting for someone to be completely 100% open?

Cheez-it called the NCAA and asked if they could make sure Nuss gets some playing time. NCAA phones Kelly and says Cheez-it needs Nuss to get some time.

If Nuss would clean up his bipolar play with mass turnovers he'd win the job easily because there would be no debate his positives far outweigh his negatives and certainly would give LSU best chance to win over JD.
JD even with all his flaws still gives LSU the best chance to win because he runs an efficient offense that rarely turns it over and also improves the RBs in zone reads due to his elite running ability. Both have flaws but as of now, JD's flaws are less impact than Nuss. You'd lose a lot of close games with Nuss if you're turning the ball over every 10 touches or so.
If you want to drive any NCAA or any football coach insane you turn the ball over consistently. Despite BK's words, he's still going to give Nuss a chance to start next year. Don't believe his words JD is his guy. Jd is his guy. Right now. If Nuss progresses to the point you can't ignore he's going to start him because he's not an idiot.

CBK treated the game like a scrimmage. No more, no less. Three different guys kicked extra points. No subliminal messages about quarterbacks. JD5 is the unquestioned starter.

Best comment on Tiger Rant in a while. It was a glorified scrimmage. As I said before, the spring game will be more of a challenge than this game was.

I don’t understand why Nuss would transfer regardless if he starts this year or not…He is basically the starter when Jayden leaves after next season, and he will be the face of this LSU team that will look to make a push for the National Championship in Year 3 of the Brian Kelly Era…It would be dumb for him to be impatient, though, if he were to transfer I could see him heading to TCU

At ND CBK was not shy about pulling a QB that was not doing things very well. I think he needs 2 QBs to make himself comfortable.
At the beginning of 2022 we all could see why JD was the QB. LSU Oline did not become good at protection until about 5 th game. By that time JD was the QB. Now 2023 things have changed. The whole dynamics of a functional offense is so much better now. Than at the beginning of 2022.
With all of that. Whatever CBK does and whatever he allows the QBs or any other position player do. I am 100% behind CBK. You can not get a cup of coffee on my support. But that is how I feel about the program. It's on the way back to the top.
Sophomore slump could happen I hope not. 8 or 9 wins could be high mark in year 2. LSU is not at full strength yet. 3rd year is going to be unbelievable.

They also gave him the cheezit costume in return.

If an alternating, 2-QB system results in us playing like we did in the bowl game for every game then sign me up

You do realize that Jayden Daniels was pretty much our entire offense, right? And that if Nuss started this season we would have had zero running game? I fail to see how less overall offense gives us a better chance to win.

Just say you don't like Daniels. It'd make it a lot easier and save you the time you spent making no sense at all.

Incorrect!!! Nuss played every 3rd possession.

He played about as good as he's played all year, IMO.

The word “controversy” implies there is a problem. It typically means your starter isn’t playing well, but his back up is. That isn’t the case here. JD has played well, for the most part. Furthermore, the staff believes he gave the team the best chance to win this past season. That said, you can have competition without having controversy. That also doesn’t mean there won’t be controversy later on. Whatever happens, I trust our coaches to make the right decision.

I'm not sure what the practices looked like before 2022 season kicked off but I think JD5 got the job specifically for his running ability and speed. CBK knew the state of the OL with true freshman and inexperience on the OL, he would need a scrambling QB.
I think that was the driving factor.
Now maybe Nuss did show his gunslinger style in practice and forced throws he shouldn't whereas JD5 was more reserved and could scramble if he didn't throw it.
If JD5 can get his pre-snap reads and then work thru the post snap reads quicker and get rid of the ball quicker I think he is the starter. But it needs to be consistent. Not getting rid of the ball on timing routes in 2.5sec in one game and then hanging on to the ball for 4 sec in the next.

JD is the starter. Nuss was given packages to entice him to stay for next year.
Don't be surprised if Nuss gets some "packages" playing time next year. Bring him in when JD is struggling to pull the trigger and let Nuss get the vertical passing game going.

Having a real passing game opens up the running game.
Nuss has no hesitation to burn them deep if they stack the box.
It’s not a good thing for JD to be the whole offense!!!
and certainly not for the WRs and RBs on the team. That’s why the offense was very average this year.
