Really really stupid play call by Smart with 33 seconds left in the half

almost impossible to score in that amount of time, and only one thing could happen and it did. 7 points should not have happened.

Plenty of teams can get 50 yards with almost minute left and 2 timeouts.

33 seconds is a lot of time and they could’ve gotten a FG. That was not a stupid call, just a good play by the defender

when a pass play is called 5 things can happen.
complete the pass
incomplete pass
intercepted pass
qb gets sacked lose yardage
qb gets stripped/fumbles and defense recovers
4 of them are bad. To not understand this with 33 seconds to play on your own 20 yard line is not just stupid, it is incompetent stupid.
Smart even admitted such at halftime, and he was correct.

Yes, but when you have an inexperienced QB who has only led the offense to 3 points in the half against a solid defense, those odds go way down.

Well then maybe they should not come out and play the second half because the risk of something bad happening is 4 times more likely on every single play. You can’t play this game with fear if you’re expecting to win.

Just doubling down on stupid. Carson Beck got hurt in a similar situation. Hell, they were basically in field goal range in the SECCG.

With 1 minute left, they call more pass plays to move the ball quickly. You don’t do that with an inexperienced qb. If they had more time, they could keep the defense guessing with a mix of pass and run.
