C- is generous.

B, and he will address the pitching problems

So his teams fought and finished strong in games and this is a negative? Of course it would be ideal to get a lead early and keep up. Hoping that happens more often next season.

I'd give him a B- or C+.
Desperately need some pitchers to come in. Almost as desperately need to see solid fundamentals in the field.
Not a great job of coaching, but a solid job of managing what he had to work with.

Manieri was fortunate to have Dugas, doughty and Bianco get crazy hot/clutch to win us that regional. It was clear that we didn’t belong in the supers and got drug. Recognize that we only won 13 SEC games with a true ace in Marceaux, Labas and Hilliard.
Don’t act like Manieri pulled some miraculous coaching job last year. Some individual players turned it up in the postseason and the team over achieved as a result.
I defended him for a long time but I can acknowledge this season would have been a train wreck with Manieri as the skipper.

Maineiri always had his team plying the best at the end of the season. While sometimes his small ball was frustrating and yes he wasn’t as dominating the last few years, he was a great coach.
We can both agree that it was time for him to retire and I can be skeptical after this season if Jay Johnson is the long term answer. It’s all part of it, glad we get to root for the purple and gold, and I can’t wait to see us bring life and domination back to the box. Just wish we were in a Super.

Solid B.
Everybody talked about how talented this team was. One through five in the lineup are as talented as anybody in America, but the bottom four could not be relied upon to get on base in big moments against teams’ bullpens. And this team had the worst starting pitching I have ever seen at LSU in my lifetime.
In terms of talent across the lineup, this was not a very good team by LSU standards. And for Jay to improve upon last year’s record is a credit to him.
Let’s see what he does with the number one ranked incoming class in America. LSU fans should be excited about the future.

Again, 100% he needs time, but grading within the context of this season only, I saw no impact from this coaching staff. Fundamentals and defense saw no improvement over the season. The pitching staff outright regressed (bullpen was actually a bright spot early/mid season before imploding end of year). So where was their impact? What did they do THIS season?

I had the chance to sit down with Coach Johnson before the season started. My first impression was this guy was a very different animal from CPM, I liked CPM, but this guy was locked in. There were several of us at the table and we grilled him pretty thoroughly, mostly about his expectations for the season. Of course, he was very non-committal, but it was obvious that pitching was his biggest concern, that turned to be fairly accurate.
I'm not going to rate him at this point, it's just way too early, but I'm very optimistic about the future. People on this board are ridiculously critical.

No better than a C.

B-
The dude did not have a true Ace. Our bullpen was inconsistent and our starters didn't really emerge until later in the year.
Yet we were still one of the best pitching staffs in the country.

C-. Better fix that defense and find some starting pitchers. Mainieri left a mess but it’s time to clean it up.

Sounds about right. I’d say C-. Overall pretty disappointing
