Keep in mind that some of our portal commits might not make it to campus. I was jacked about Tebrake and Pineda then they went pro.

Did you know that having a crappy draw and not doing enough to beat the #4 team can be both be true. At the same time
Hard not to feel hosed by committee

LSU was clearly one of the hottest teams and strong 2 seed. Why put us in the #4 seed regional? Felt like we played our way into a lesser host.
I know I know, you’re going to have to beat top seeds eventually, so it’s just kicking the can down the road. Both LSU and UNC are in the top 16 in the country and should be playing in super regionals.
Don’t mind me crying myself to sleep tonight

Jump was pounding the real strike zone so it negatively impacted the Wofford batters less. Their pitchers were not nearly as controlled as Jump so they benefitted much more from the inconsistent zone.

Back to the topic at hand, if both guys are throwing strikes with their offspeed, Hurd is significantly better than Floyd. He has a plus breaking pitch.
This. Floyd couldn't spot his offspeed for strikes yesterday and a veteran lineup like Kentucky was able to sit fastball and make him pay. I will say that his control was as bad as I can recall for him, especially with his offspeed stuff so here's to hoping that was a one-off.
My vote is still start Floyd with Hurd in long relief as needed, similar to OSU game.
re: We only got 7 hits in a Game 3

I agree that Floyd is looking very strong in his last few starts. BP debacle against State overshadowed what was a fantastic day for him.
We’re Jekyll and Hyde out of the bullpen. Herring, Guidry and Hurd can pitch great and have recently. But they also can have control issues which is still in there somewhere.
I agree with you. If we can get the pitching performance we had against UGA and our bats return to mid season form, we will be very competitive in the post season.

Bodie and Choup, don’t waste your energy with rantards trying to have any dialogue about this team. It’s clear to anyone with eyes that things have changed with this team in the last 3 weeks. Our bats aren’t consistently saving the day like they have all season. We haven’t been as clutch and have our best hitters slumping. But you’ll get bombarded with how our offense is the best in the SEC which completely ignores the trend we’re on. I’ll keep rooting like hell, but we’re going to have to return to mid season form with the bats and defense.
re: PSA: #2 Arky's bullpen gave up 8 ERs in the 8th inning...

Brings up a question for me: will the post season umps be a net benefit to SEC teams? Bigger zone obviously helps the pitchers but teams like LSU have had plate discipline and a ton of walks.

The first 2 innings pissed me off with stranded RISP but we finally made them pay. Crews getting his mojo back. White doing what he does. Pearson out of nowhere. Def like what I’m seeing.

Bad thread title which is my bad.
Should have been “have we been relying on the long ball too much lately?” rather than a statement. I wanted to see what people thought.

Not sure I follow your point. My question is as of late have we been relying on the long ball too much to score runs? It feels to me like that lately we are having less basehit rallies/2 out rallies, more groundball outs and too many stranded RISP. Mid season I thought we actually excelled at having a balanced offense but I’m concerned we’re losing balance in how we produce runs.
What say you?

And despite ranking that high statistically, we’ve lost 4 of our last 7 SEC games. I’m evaluating what it’s going to take for us to win, not how we compare to other teams. Bottom line is our bullpen is trash and we will have to score 10+ runs a game. Is that fair to the offense, hell no, but it’s what it’s going to take.
My thought is anecdotal with some recency bias bc of how we won last night. What would be interesting to see would be the season stats broken into quarters and % of RBIs by HR. That would easily tell the story.
Probably should have phrased my OP as a question instead of a statement. Im not totally convinced that we are solely dependent on HRs, more of conversation topic.

I said it in the OP and I’ll say it again, the Achilles’ heel of this team is clearly pitching, so with that said, our team is going to have to score a shite load of runs. I’m not saying it’s fair to our offense, just the truth.
Thinking specific to last nights game. The extra inning bombs from Pearson and Thompson are out in Omaha and that was the difference in the game. My point, made a little differently, is that if we can stop stranding as many base runners as we are right now, we’re gonna be really hard to beat.
