No, there's no way 2000 was better than 2009.

I think the 2000 team is getting overrated by how good the players turned out to be in the pros. 200 was the only time we won a title game that I felt we were large underdogs going into the game.
All title teams are great, almost by definition, but the 2000 was one of our weaker teams, but seems stronger given how they turned out as pros. Pro careers don't change how awesome Todd Walker was in college. I'm not sure our best team, but its a competition between the 1991, 1997, and 2009 teams. I'm partial to 97 myself

the 97 team was the best hands down. The 2000 team had a sweet infield. I can remember they looked so smooth turning the double play. With that I believe the 09 team was better than 00 b/c of Ranaudo and Coleman. The 00 team didn't have that.

Theriot was an error machine, though.

I think '09 is definately a very close second.

I don't think the 2000 team was the best but the schedule they played was really tough. It was probably the best year for baseball around the state of Louisiana, ULL won over 50 games and made the CWS, Tulane was in the supers, McNeese won like 48 games or something ridiculous like that. We also played Houston, who had some studs that year and won close to 50 games as well.

I don't disagree much with the listings on here, but I do think the 96 team isn't getting enough credit. Remember, when Warren Morris started, that team was 22-0. Take away any teams best, or close to best, player and they will lose a few more games. Having said that, I would put the 97 team at the top. Its not because I'm positive the 97 team was the best, but I do know I was never more confident of any LSU team than that one.

were any of those other teams that won the CWS ranked preseason #1? the consistency of the 09 team is unreal. only 1 two game losing streak. i wonder if the other LSU teams could say that.

I think the 97 team was preseason #1.

I was listening to a radio interview with Todd Walker yesterday, and I thought he said that his 1993 team was ranked no. 1 pre-season.
I don't know the answer, but I wonder if any of the other championship teams, like the 2009 team, started the season no. 1, won the SEC regular season championship, won the SEC tournament championship, and won the CWS. That is quite an accomplishment.

That's just off the top of my head, without specifically recalling records or anything. That's just based on how strong I remember the team being heading into the Championship Game/Series. And they all came out pretty much the same in the Championship Game/Series except for '93 and '97.

This whole excercise is like asking a parent to name his favorite child. You love them all equally.

quote:I wasn't rating how good the team could have been, I was rating how good the team was. And the reality was that we were without Morris for much of the year, which made us a lot weaker than we would have otherwise been. Like others have said, all these teams were obviously great, so we're splitting hairs to begin with. Through nothing more than luck of the injury draw, '96 comes out last imo.

Well, remember the TOP of the 9th rally against Long Beach State in the elimination game of the "South II" game in Baton Rouge in 1997 after South Alabama had beaten us.
As powerful as that '97 team was they came 'that' close to not having made it out of Baton Rouge.
