Gio has no history to suggest he's going to do better than Dugas.
Depends on your measurement.

but there is no way Dugas should be batting any lower than 6th
Hitters are tools, you use them as such. I see Dugas as 7 or 8 as a good thing. He can drive in runs, to do that we need runners on base.

The batting order isnt some ranking.

Brayden Jobert won the home run derby at the 2018 Marucci World Series, knocked a home run against LSU while at Nicholls in 2020, then had two this weekend.

Milazzo just isn’t good enough to be a catcher at LSU. But they are kind of stuck with him

Two weeks later and I stand by my thought that every list should start:

1. Crews
2. Berry
3. Morgan

Can we turn Dugas into a catcher?
Turn Crews into a catcher and this team would be on fire. He has the arm for the position, and that opens up the lineup for another big bat. I don’t think Dugas has the arm for catcher.

Lmao you can’t just turn someone into a catcher. It’s the second most important/hardest position on the diamond.
But if y’all are just speaking fantasy wise then yeah crews at catcher would be legit. He has the build for it and the arm. And we could throw Joubert to LF Gio cf and dugas DH

Yeah, no shite. I was responding to a post saying we could turn Dugas into a catcher. My point is that if you were going to do this, the guy would be Crews, not Dugas. You are preaching to the choir about the catcher position. I don’t like seeing anyone but Milazzo back there. And that’s because of his receiving skills, not just pop and arm.

Didn’t crews come in last year with catcher as one of his possible positions or am I thinking of someone else?

Please stick around to monitor all season. I don’t get the need to cash a check this early but I can tell you know it won’t pay off for you

You take away one hit that should have been an error, he’s at .214 with his 24% K rate against bad pitching. That’s how quickly this is going to turn on you

It happens all the time.

And Crews has caught before for Team USA. Scouts have wanted to see him behind the plate for a while now.

Taking away stats to prove a point isn’t the best look. He’s producing. More than McManus that’s for sure.

I’m a process guy. Not too worried about the results right now, given the small sample size & competition. Red flags still there.

A 3hopper to SS, that is an out 100% of the time in SEC play, is not a great predictor of future hitting success because Bryan Lazare thinks that’s a base hit.

You can call it a bad look. I’m looking for him to become a threat at the plate, not win an argument after 7 games. And that ain’t it

He won’t be a threat. He’s not asked to be. He’s more patient. Working pitchers. Better contact. Better OBP. He’s 4 for 5 on sac bunt attempts. He’s got 4 RBI. He’s putting out positive PAs at over double the clip of last year. Let’s not raise the bar just yet to “threat” when that’s not what he needs to be in this lineup with 8 threats around him.

Look at his splits compared to last year. He only had 7 RBIs… 8 bunts… 13 walks…. He’s already got 4/4/3 this year and we are only 8 games in.

So basically a conventional National league pitcher batting 9th

Look I hope he hits well enough to where he never has to come out of the game.

But The K rate is alarming considering he has given himself up in 4 ABs. And the hard contact has been sparse.

Look, if you don’t want to compare him to last year and grade him on what he’s being asked to do, he’s not going to meet your standard at any point. But what’s the alternative? You ignored McManus. He’s hitting nearly 300. He’s moving runners. And now you’re fixated on K Rate as if it’s still not loads better. 5/22 PAs vs 46/158 PAs. If you choose to ignore his improvement, there’s no point even arguing. It’s bad faith.

I’m not arguing anything right now, that’s my point.

Sacrifice bunting is not encouraging to me.

The strike outs against this level of pitching is not encouraging.

I’m not trying to “take away” hits. But if he were hitting line drives everywhere for outs, you’d say the hits were coming. Same can be said for cheap hits, just the opposite. Those things tend to correct themselves especially with a K% like that. Just putting the pieces together, I hope to be wrong

As for McManus, I have only seen 4 of his ABs. Two were hits, one a rope down the line & the other a beautiful back side grounder on a hit & run that went for a hit. His OPS is still almost even with Milazzo lol
