I am confused. I am sure this all means we should fire someone....but who??

The offense is better than the bullpen.
It's one of those years where the preseason talk was all about this team living and dying by the bullpen which turned out to be very true.

Frustrating year for sure. Those numbers don't look terrible. Just never put it all together this season. This team has been completely inconsistent in every area. Starting pitching looked great, then terrible at times. Same for bullpen, and same for the bats. They never really had all three going good at the same time.
But hey, this weekend seems like a great time to do it. We can hope at least.

A couple of more telling storylines.....
3 road wins on the season.
High likelihood of no more games at the Box this season, earliest closure date since 2007.
I'm thinking & hoping this season is an anomaly and we come roaring back in the next couple of years.

Our main problem is and continues to be pitching. Had everyone on board remained healthy, I believe our starting rotation would be Walker-Labas-Storz with Hess closing.

The list of things worse than the bullpen is very short.

The most telling stat.
When your top 2 starters are 4.24 and 3.66, you won't go very far in this league.

Go back to past seasons. Look at where LSU finished in the SEC and look at their starting post season seeding. Then let me know if you think this is the norm, or just an unnaturally down year for multiple reasons.

The bullpen ERA is more of a story.

LSU had to replace the entire rotation from last year.
On top of that you had to move your closer into a starting role to compensate without a consistent, adequate replacement.
You had a lot of unproven pitching.
On top of that, injuries to both pitchers and position players hurt this team. A healthy Josh Smith alone might have been worth another 4/5 wins which would have LSU right where they normally are.
You could also have used Bain more in the closer role on top of his place in the lineup.

Bain is not a very good pitcher at all.

Last night Will Reese came in the game in relief with an ERA of 20.25. He left the game one out later with an ERA of 21.60.

Taylor Petersen entered the game in relief sporting an ERA of 12.46. He left the game one out later with an ERA of 16.00.

I foresee some players getting processed at the end of the season.....

That's false for two reasons. In 2010, LSU went on the road to UCLA for a Regional, and I'm pretty sure the whole LSU baseball facility shut down in mid-May 2011. Didn't even make it to Hoover, if I recall.

Bain is better than what you've been trotting out there recently.

Does anyone think Alan Dunn should be worried about his job?
