My wife and I will be leaving New Orleans on a cruise at 4pm saturday, and was wondering if someone could tell me what would be the best radio station to listen to the game on. We get 98.1 up here, but I don't know if that is the best station to listen to the game below New Orleans. The ship won't be out of the mouth of the river until around midnight, so we should be able to listen to the game. I'm hoping there will be enough people wanting to see the game, that the crew will put the game on the big screen on lido deck, but I want to at least listen to it if they don't.

You could always go and get a portable XM Radio and listen to it. That will work for sure.

Thanks! Yes I'm planning on making my rounds and see if it's on in any of the bars, but I hope we can convince them to put it on the big screen. Last year we were coming back in and they put the game between the Saints and the Redskins on. When the Saints came back to win that game, I thought those fools were going to sink the boat with all that jumping up and down.

You can hear 870 all the way to Lake Titicaca at night.

I think The Boat is correct, but I can certainly say that you can hear WWL (870) to the mouth of river w/o any problems.

Radio Chavez from Venezuela. Clear channel cranking out sounds across the Caribbean. And all of the commercial breaks are Obama political ads.

probably farther than that. AM signals use water to carry their signal further...something about a AM signal when it hits water it just carries and carries.

my guess is that 870 will be your only radio option

I was wondering the same thing as I will be in Galveston. WWL will be the best option, but if I cannot pick it up how do you get it on the computer? Will www.eagle981.com get you the feed? Or, is ESPNU regional enough to be shown around H-Town? Anyone know?

Just as an FYI, the Carnival ships (sounds like OP is on the Triumph) have crappy international satellite lineups. You may get major networks (CBS, FOX, ABC, etc) but don't expect ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU. I had to keep up with the CWS using the pay-by-minute internet

Then again, if you're a fan of soccer and tennis, enjoy.

Edit: I'd imagine you will be able to catch 870 AM long enough to hear the whole game (it takes a while to get out the river)

WWL 87 AM for the game and then the scintilating post-game LSU talk show with Deke Bellavia.

If you have access to a computer on the ship, Gordy Rush and Charles Hannigriff have their post game LSU talk online at 104.5ESPN.com. That show online is a life saver. They're about the only ones worth listening to discussing LSU football...........
