Lots of ppl like to criticize PM’s recruiting. True, pitching was weak. But PM is responsible for Crews, Tre Morgan, Dugas & Doughty. That’s a pretty good list.

PM was like Les Miles. The talent wasn’t a problem. We always had the talent level at LSU. Developing that talent has been our downfall.

Just for shits and giggles, here is the list of catchers that LSU recruited (to the point of securing their commitment) while Nolan Cain was the RC:

Hayden Travinski
Braden Doughty
Drew Romo
Ian Moller
Alex Milazzo
Brock Mathis
Saul Garza
Carter Jensen
Ethan Frey
Jared Jones
Brady Neal
Jacob Wyeth
Blake Mitchell

Winning begins with good/great pitching, and CPM left the cupboard pretty bare. Look at Southern Miss, good/great pitching with average hitting.

Not a player on that team was absolutely worthless. All members of a team have value.

Just my opinion, you need to think about your own kids before calling other people’s children absolutely worthless and think about how you would feel if that’s your child

To me the problem was the recruiting philosophy. We got way too many early commitments from 15-16 year old that for the most part had matured early. Because of this there wasn't much upside to them when they got to campus, plus you missed out on the players that matured later and would have significant upside, like the USM pitcher from Zachary.

For the past several years, most of our players were about as good as they were going to get from day one and showed little to no improvement. There needs to be a blend in recruiting classes of players that are ready to play and other that will develop as they mature.

Maybe in holistic, great dugout guy kinda way, but there were guys who where shitty hitters And mediocre fielders.

They have value as human, damn. Some people just aren’t D1 players. Most people aren’t. Everyone baseball dream ends at SOME point. 99.999999999999999% it’s not the HOF

In your opinion Project, which of Frey, Jones and/or Neal make it to campus?

PM didn’t recruit top shelf pitchers and keep them healthy.
PM recruit several elite hitters; however, he didn’t recruit a catcher that could hit, a plus SS/2B combination, of much depth.

Yes, Doughty, Crews, Morgan and Dugas were all good to very good. That’s four positions, look at the other 5 too.

I think we have a good shot at getting both Frey and Jones. Frey more so than Jones, but both is very reasonable.

I don't think we get Neal. I don't have any info on him specifically, but despite being in a high risk draft category, his age is going to be very attractive in the draft models and he hit against good enough HS competition for someone to pay him enough to skip school.

In the context of a baseball team not being able to pitch, hit or field makes you worthless.

But that you for you input Mrs. Cranford.

It is a good list. And in the age of the portal, all could have peaced out to a different school with the coaching change. Jay had to recruit them to stay.
