The injury has clearly taken away his ability to swing normally.

What injury is this? I must have missed something. And his defense has not been shaky "all series." He made a poor fundamental throw to milam on an opportunity to turn 2 but got the runner out at 2nd. He also made a quick turn to get the double play that Jones got tied up on but to call it shaky is a bit of a stretch.

1. Did it seem like our runner on third got a late jump?

2. If you’re going to run that play why have the runner go 3/4 of the way down the line. Have him go 1/2 way and get caught in the desired run down.

usually you do it with 2 outs

and see if the team will trade getting out the inning with 1 and 3rd for 1 run vs having runners on 3rd and 2nd.

Just rewatched it twice, pearson starts his break towards the plate as the ball is going over gaeckle’s head. Thats the perfect time to go, you go earlier, and risk gaeckle catching it.

The reason brown goes 3/4 is to persuade the fielder to come after him and not to go back to the plate to nail pearson. Its a good play if brown doesnt slip. It was planned, just not executed

Number 1, a delay steal was on

You don’t delay steal first and third two outs. It’s a play to get the run home before the runner gets tagged. That’s why Brown wasn’t running hard then stopped.

It’s a test of execution for both teams if the catcher throws through. Brown’s slip allowed Arkansas to score higher on the test.

100% correct. There was no delayed steal. You want to get caught in a run down if they throw down which they did which i thought was surprising that they threw down in the first place.

I still say Brown went a little too far towards 2nd base

first and third defense is decided long before the pitch is thrown. It isn’t at the catchers discretion.

It should be and I’m sure it was. A catcher can also revert back to habit, which is the throw.

Some teams do that. Concede second. Others put in plays to defense it. Just depends on the situation and the team.

It was designed to get a throw, not simply to steal 2nd.

Probably, but Pearson wasn't as far off 3rd for a typical double steal. He only had a routine lead off 3rd, no secondary lead and made a later than usual break for home. Originally, I thought it was a double steal, but now I wonder.

Well on video thats what he did...he shuffled shuffled and took off as catcher caught ball and only stopped when the ball was caught by 2nd baseman. It was a delay steal and like you said he stopped. The whole thing wasn't a good from the beginning....let Daniel try to drive in Pearson imo

If it wasn't a delay steal then why did he do it? Why did he go too far? Why didnt Pearson have a bigger lead and seemed to not know wrfnwas happening before he took off?

Why are we using a delay steal technique to score a run?

In the end it dont matter , Tigers win. Cws finals next

I like the call..Think Peterson needed a little better secondary lead and break.
