"without legitimate provocation". My memory says there was a very violent Ukrainian Nazi attack on a Russian labor group in Odessa where the Nazi's surrounded the labor group in a church or hospital and set fire to it. Occurred 1-3 years before Russia invaded.

Yeah this sounds exactly like the Putin playbook to engage. He's done similar operations in other countries, mind you.

You're a frantic emotional mess. You have no spine and try to outsmart people by moving goalposts. No one should ever listen to you.
That's what.

I have no idea.

The playbook is to use Russian spec ops to start pro-Russian groups and then recruit ethnic Russians who create conflict with the locals. Then when there is a response to that conflict, Putin claims ethnic Russians are being attacked to create a darker fog of war, promoting more conflict, to the point where Putin says Russia proper has to get involved.

This same playbook has been done in multiple countries. Ukraine was just the latest. It started in Georgia in like 2008, IIRC

SloBro is wrong about 99% of the topics on this board, but he's not wrong about Russia. Russia is the aggressor in Ukraine and is guilty of deliberately and repeatedly attacking civilians. Russia has always been a backward, thug nation operating on a might-makes-right basis. Thankfully there are few nations more militarily incompetent than Russia, or they would have caused a lot more trouble. Putin is the one constantly saber rattling about nukes. Nobody else has made that threat.

There is this weird cognitive dissonance, still, that Russia didn't start this war

That’s because, as is the case with most wars, the initial provocations are murky and subject to perspective. There was a lot of diplomacy, covert influencing, undermining of elected governments, etc by both the Russians and the US and its allies.

Certainly the first “kinetic” attack was by the Russians. Was it provoked and justified? That’s a matter of perspective and opinion.
