How can you justify saying you should have the opportunity to win the National Championship when not only did you not win you your conference, you didn’t even play for your conference championship or win your division.

I think the problem is that the criteria for conferences and the playoffs are too different. I would say that Alabama is 3rd in the SEC right now, because they didn't make it to the conference championship, and didn't have a chance to lose that game. Auburn is being penalized for losing a game Alabama didn't earn the right to play. The playoff rankings negate the conference championships and the head to head results.

I agree with other posters that have said that Alabama would have to have 2 losses to be left out, where other P5 schools may be out with 1.

Or its division.

The problem for me, like in 2011, is that Bama benefits by not being the division champion. Bama has one less game than everybody else in the playoffs because they didn't win their division. It is infuriating that they not only get in the playoffs without winning the division, but actually benefit from it.

A little off the subject, but LSU was Alabama's best win and got them in the playoffs, so we must be pretty good.

that's a really dumb statement.

No, never. You don't win your division, you aren't the best in the nation.

would be happy for LSU to go, but it would not change my position that the playoff is just too small at 4 teams to include a team that failed to win its conference.
The only problem with that argument is the assumption that all conferences are the same strength every year. There have been times in the past where the top 3 teams in Sec west could literarily be the top 3-5 teams in the country.

they failed to win their conference in 2011. Look how that turned out. They were the best team that year and we were the 2nd best team that year

I just hate the whole “best” team argument

I agree. The "best" is purely subjective unless 2 teams actually play each other.

That's why the eye test is such BS and needs to go away. If you aren't even the best in your half (division) of your region (conference), how can you claim to be the best in the nation. You can't and should not be allowed to play in the national tournament (playoff).

This only applies to football, baseball and basketball are entirely different and it is not a fair comparison.

Says who? OSU had a better resume, and LSU finished the year with a much more impressive set of wins. Bama splitting games with us means nothing to me.

I have always pulled for the SEC no matter which team is playing.

most LSU fans used to as well. We don't anymore, b/c frick everyone else. If we win games, we get in. We don't need south carolina to beat Michigan State to help us get to the playoffs next year.

LSU fans for some reason think if they make all other conference teams look bad they somehow gain

why would i want the teams that we recruit against to do well?

No it doesn't. what about the boats that already sunk?
