How did his units perform at those spots? Is his first year at LSU just an anomaly? I also think Brian Kelly is a smart guy who surrounds himself with talented coaches. I just don’t understand how he could possibly be as bad as it seems.

A lot of schools. Also a lot of short stays. Is there a reason?

It has been my impression that Polian's worth to the program was in recruiting and player/talent evaluation

More than likely he was brought over as a culture hire because he was the only coach willing to follow Kelly to LSU.

Question is, what school will he be at next season?

Catching the ball is something every skill player could do prior to arriving at LSU

Picking the ones that can do it in the game is the coaches responsibility - Fail

Running downfield in your lane on kickoffs and punts is something every human with sight can do.

Coaching players to stay in their coverage lane is the coaches responsibility - Fail.

Polian is a disaster and should be fired as soon as the season ends.

He’s done it for 15 years. Seems like he would know how to coach it. It’s very puzzling to me.

Need to ask him if he is happy with his special team’s results? If not what is he doing about it.

Not puzzling to me at all.

There are a lot of people, in every business, who've been at high levels for many years, who just aren't good at their job. I've seen it many, many times over the years.

Because athletes in the SEC are different and the play is so much faster.

It’s part of the reason you’re seeing our OC struggle too, some of the things he could do and get away with at Cincy & ND just won’t work vs SEC defenses. You’re seeing coaching growing pains this season too.

There may be other things he is good at but coaching ST is not one of them.

Notre Dame people said he sucks at special teams coaching but is an elite recruiter and talent evaluator.

Sounds like that’s just continued.

We need to hire a Greg McMahon type guy as analyst to help Polian in the film room and give him some direction. Obviously they can’t coach, but I think it would really help.

It’s called the coaching profession. Totally normal.

Is it possible he’s recruiting so much that he is missing time coaching? Serious question

He needs to hit the trail. We are 6 games in which is halfway through the season, and I have not seen ANY improvement. This guy sucks. LSU has always had good special teams. We have regressed for sure.

I hate to say this, but look at his last name. Sometimes that has a lot to do with the jobs you get.

I think Kelly probably knows it’s a rebuilding year and values his recruiting of a foundational class more important than special teams. I bet a change is made next year or he gets a babysitter analyst.
