If them boys can pull off another championship he won't give a shite about his last start at the Box.

I think also he was slightly irritated with the tight strike zone.
He was hitting it just fine the first two innings.

May be unpopular but CPM should consider starting him vs FSU. He's good enough to take them on Would much rather have Lange vs Oregon St
Not no but HELL NO! Poche is to inconsistent to start game 1. This is not a game we can afford to lose. While I agree we should save Lange for Oregon St, I would throw Walker. The kid is hot and coming off almost 2 weeks of rest. He is good enough to win that game and seems to be emotionally mature enough o handle it. Right now our 2 best options are Lange and Walker.

Remember, he melted down in the regional too.
Why do people keep saying this? Poche did not pitch his best against Texas Southern, but he was ok. He only gave up one earned run. The defense was atrocious behind him.

After reading through this thread I think there are a lot of good points as to what happened to Poche. The slip and fall, tight strike zone, wet ball, emotions etc.
it was probably just a combination of all these factors. The whole thing just snowballed on him.

Definitely! Kramer shite the bed that game. These young men play on emotion and momentum. Everybody has bad days, and last night was his...just hate that it happened his last game in the Box!

No doubt, and the bi polar strike zone

I hated to see that, so wanted him to have a good outing last night.
I hate arguing balls and strikes, but that zone really was nonsensical.

Oyster, well said - it did snowball on him. The point of my post iwas that nobody, including the TV announcers, made any comment about the slip and fall - I assume because he wasn't injured. Big Ben knows as well as anybody that aside from getting a secure push off the rubber, the ability to establish a consistent planted foot on the stride toward the plate is ultra important to a pitcher's mechanics. Especially with a guy like Poche who thrives on hitting his spots rather than power fastballs.

I agree, but for different reasons. Poche has shown a chink in the armor. When the game is an emotional high and things don't go his way, he quickly gets frustrated and looses the zone.
I think going into Omaha, you start off with Walker Game 1, Lange Game 2, and Poche in Game 3. The reason being is the first game in Omaha is ALWAYS an emotional roller coaster. Everyone's amped up to play in the CWS and mistakes usually are made. Walker has shown the ability to be composed and emotionless on the mound. Which, in that environment, is absolutely crucial. Once things settle down and the team gets accustomed to playing in that environment, Poche will do the same. He'll bounce back.

sproblem last night started immediately after the slip on the mound - he ended up walking that batter then giving up the HR and 3 straight walks
Texas southern it was errors.
This time it's mud.
Omaha it will be sweet brown baby jesus' glare off his crown.

Yeah that ump was ridiculous

If you do start poche in a game, you need a lot short leach than last night, you won't be playing pitcher deficient miss st or Texas southern.

The ump was crazy inconsistent in that stretch. Pitches he got in the first couple innings were balls in the 3rd.
FWIW, I thought they were probably balls, but dammit, if it's a strike in the first it should be a strike in the 3rd. I do think he got frustrated with trying to find that ump's zone, but weather, the slip, etc....all that probably contributed.
I hate it for him...he deserved a more fitting end to his Alex Box career...great Tiger!

Ump was bad for both staffs...not saying it was just Poche having to deal with it. Just think it affected him more because he typically is a location pitcher and depends on the corners.

Funny how all these issues for senior Poche (ump, mud, heat, emotions) and none for sophmore Gilbert

I think the moment got to him....understandable when eat, sleep, and shite LSU Baseball your entire life.

Wow, did he have a melt down last night or what? That was Brittany spears 2007 level esque

He started the game (adrenaline is highest) single, single, walk before settling down enough to get out of the inning with only a couple of runs. Loading the bases in the first inning with no outs is a sign of pressure.
Then after settling down, an error kind of started the meltdown again...error walk, single, walk before another error ended his day.
We also saw him melt down in the CWS against TCU in response to his own errors. This was after he was settled down and cruising. He went from dominating to missing spots and getting hit...night and day.
