That also just threw nearly 120 pitches

Hard to imagine throwing Poche versus this RPI 260+ team. They're not good.

Well, we know that Lange is throwing Saturday and Walker isn't going on short rest. You can't run the risk of there being nearly a month between starts for Walker, so Poche-Lange-Walker is your best bet, with Gilbert or Peterson on Monday if necessary. Or, like others have stated, throw Poche 5 or 6 on Friday, and bring him back Monday if needed.

I really don't understand burning any of our weekend starters against Texas Southern. Gilbert/Peterson should get the start for Game 1 leaving our weekend rotation to close out the Regional.

So you don't want to burn any weekend starters but are totally cool with burning Gilbert for the rest of the weekend, when he would be very valuable out of the pen against Rice/Southeastern

People are so screwed in the head after we lost the game to Houston on Monday. Now we have to save all of our pitching for Monday!!! JUST IN CASE!!!

My opinion is not based on that scenario at all.

When has Gilbert seen meaningful innings out of the pen during SEC play? Hess, Bush and Newman have done the heavy lifting lately.

I'll gladly take my chances with Lange, Poche and Walker the rest of the weekend without Gilbert.

Gilbert has pitched in the last 4 SEC series.

You act as if it's impossible to work in Walker if we go 3-0.

The freshman Walker's arm is looking tired, I'd like to see him with a small work load this weekend if we don't need him. TSU is terrible. They're possibly the worst team we've ever seen in a regional.

Did you watch him yesterday? It's not like he threw a gen against one of the hottest hitting teams in the nation. Obviously tired

I would not pitch Poche in game one. I would pitch him in game two and Lange in game three. We can get some work in for Walker if necessary.

You pitch your best pitcher in game two. That's not even up for discussion.

I'd still rather burn Gilbert Friday and have Lange, Poche and Walker to close out the Regional.

What if you throw Poche in Game 1 and then Lange loses a 2-1 game on Saturday, you then have to win three games with Walker as the only weekend starter left (with the exception of maybe Poche should you get to a Monday game). No thanks.

But what if LSU goes 3-0 in the regional and then goes 2-0 in the supers... Walker doesn't pitch for a month.

Him saying Walker won't pitch until Saturday is an interesting nugget. Why would he say that when Lange is going to pitch on Saturday? It makes me think he's going to use some Gilbert combo on Friday, Lange Saturday, Poche Sunday, and Walker out of the pen Saturday or Sunday if needed. And also out of the pen to re-start a game in case of rain. Mainieri might not be wanting to waste Walker and Poche on Friday against terrible Texas Southern when there's bad weather planned.
