This team was highly overhyped and overrated. The opening series against Maine fooled most everybody, including myself. Fielding, hitting, pitching, and coaching are all suspect at this point.

I don’t get what they saw in Floyd so far this year that made them think he was ready to start against an SEC lineup. Until he can develop more he needs to pitch mid week or in mop up situations. Johnson is going to have to really manage this pitching staff close if we’re going to have a chance at winning some SEC series this year.

Probably it’s more what they didn’t see in anyone else.

Money in Friday.
Hilliard on Saturdays

Sam Dutton is a guy I wouldn’t Mind seeing if we can extent considering he’s one of 4 guys on the team with a second pitch

Crow always tastes best when the correct seasoning is used. We are waiting for the final taste after Omaha.

Perhaps he is the best of a mediocre group?

This club will not make the field come tournament time. I like Johnson but he doesn’t have the pitching or defensive talent to be a player in this conference currently. 2-3 seasons at a minimum.

I don’t know that they’ll make it to Omaha without some significant improvement on defense. The timely hits will come, pitching will likely improve. The errors are what scare me. You can’t average over 2 errors a game and expect to make it to Omaha

I don’t think Johnson is the problem at the moment. The problems are issues that have been carried over from CPM era. There’s been a lack of a true 3rd baseman on the roster since Ibarra. I can’t remember the last time there were two dominant arms on the pitching staff at the same time. Maybe Coleman and Ronaudo?

Point is, the roster hasn’t been well managed in a long time. Johnson is having to fight that. That’s why you saw them hit the portal so hard looking for arms.

I’d like to see Taylor. He had a breaking ball for an out pitch and has velocity. Seems they have been careful to not extend him to this point.

He’s not. Fans are too quick to judge this team. LSU isn’t playing bad, they’re just playing bad in spots. This coach will get it corrected.

If we're lucky, and this is a big if, this team MIGHT go .500 in conference. And that would take huge improvements.

Arms are weak. You have to throw strikes.

But then you have to make the outs.

We’re doomed.

Have you heard of blake money?

He didn't get out of the fourth inning tonight against a 10-6 (now 11-6) team. Blake Money is no where near ready to be called a dominant SEC starting pitcher.

Not saying he can't be or won't be...but he most certainly is not right now.

I'm not ready to throw in the towel on Jay Johnson. I agree with Ben McDonald when he said this LSU team has the talent to win however, it comes down to a couple things:

1. Relief pitching

2. Fixing these costly errors. Our fielding is poor. I never thought I'd be saying that.

And these are good players, they aren't just coming in as true freshman with little to no experience. These are routine plays. These shouldn't be happening. They certainly shouldn't be happening as frequently as they have been. These errors have already cost us at least 4 games. It needs to be fixed now.

There's certainly time to get it fixed (better to see this early in the season rather than in May) but when it keeps happening, it starts to become concerning.

I hope I’m eating crow but defensively this team is miles away from being CWS worthy
