Playoffs or bust was always a dangerous idea to have

I don't care about the talks of a $50M+ roster, giving Lane and co $90M+… look at what LSU had to REBUILD. This was never a retool and win right now situation. New Dline, 3 new offensive linemen, new QB, new RBs, all new WRs… that’s a tough situation to walk into and expect crisp execution and instant success. LSU will battle and be competitive in all games. Its ok to want to be better than last season, but don’t force an almost unrealistic goal in the FIRST SEASON.

It’s not unrealistic at all. Right now Vegas has us at 50/50 to make the playoff. Win this weekend and we will be favored to make it.

I dont care what Vegas thinks. That $50M+ was to rebuild a DEPLETED roster. You cant win with no depth behind what Kiffin had to acquire. Having to spend money to get 3 QBs, 2 backup TEs, a whole new WR room PLUS their backups, a starting LB and edges, etc should tell you how large the deficits were… Kiffin and co are ELITE coaches but to expect instant success with talent and no depth is asinine.

Last season Ole Miss's QB, RB, and top 3 WRs were 1st year transfers. As was their top pass rusher (who now plays for LSU). They did just fine.
The days of building rosters by stacking HS recruiting classes and developing them over the course of multiple years are over. Every player on every roster is now a 1 year FA. That means there is no guarantee any of the guys on this year's team will be on next year's LSU team. They will all have to renegotiate "contracts". LSU went out and signed what, by those who evaluate such things, was considered to be a very good "free agent" class. LSU also returned some key players such as Weeks, Green, and 4 of the 5 starting secondary players.
That is the nature of CFB today. Sign players, win, then do it again next year. There is no building "programs". You're building teams year to year

I think you’re swinging too far to the other side. Every year at LSU is playoffs or bust. We should be in the top 12 almost every year. When they expand a 16, we should definitely be in every year.
That said, losing on the road at Ole Miss is not a catastrophe.

Thing is, people think LSU is just “bagmanning” people for the hell of it and treasures are spread throughout the roster. They arent. It’s solely to get the bare minimum to get some sort of a competitive team fielded.

Last time I checked, one loss isn’t enough to disqualify a team from the playoffs. That goal is still on the table!
