I get what you’re saying, but why have these bowls anymore?

TV money. It’s why all sports exist.

I think ESPN should broadcast the CFP national championship for the love of the game. Go commercial free. Accept no ad dollars. No promoting Disney products. No executive takes a paycheck that week. On-air talent does it gratis.

Do this for the love of the game.

This plus the fact that there are like a billion more bowls than there were in 1970. ESPN manufactured that shite so they can make more money. Shocker some kids are not willing to risk it all to play one more time in the Boudreaux’s Butt Paste Bowl. And when they don’t, who drives the narrative about players quitting ? ESPN and some of its biggest personalities. Bunch of hypocrites with this love of the game nonsense when what drives them (ESPN) is love of money/profits.

Not to mention the average fan has zero desire to show up for these kids at these bowl games either. Similar to actual home games, they want to save themselves time, money and discomfort by watching it at home. So why does the kid have to risk injury in a game you didn’t even bother to show up for? For your bragging rights on the SEC Rant?

Yes, it absolutely does.

Lou nailed it.
People feel, think, and believe that accountability ends with themselves now days.

This phenomenon is two to three centuries in the making, but it is now prevalent as we have shifted to what the Jewish intellectual Philip Rieff has labeled the “third world”, which he defines as “anti culture.”

All forms of structure, organization, institutions are rejected at a whim. There is no thought of history or community. There is nothing that binds an individual to anything other than himself. I make myself and determine who I want to be and what I want people to see me as. And they better see me as I want to be seen. And if you don’t agree with me, you’re a backwards bigot.

It’s very sad.

The bowl games are meaningless and just making money for the schools. If they aren’t playing for playoffs or a championship, the kids now a days feel like they are a waste of time. Expand the playoffs and you cut down on this!

College football also wasn't a multi-billion dollar entertainment industry back then.

I didn’t realize the NFL just started paying players “life changing money” five years ago. You guys that support this are the worst. “Meaningless bowl game”... no such thing. A competitor loves the opportunity to play and compete. Now y’all try to use Matt Corral as a negative. I say that’s the most proof that playing won’t harm you. He got injured and couldn’t finish the game, yet that will change absolutely nothing about his chances to make “life changing money”. He’s still getting drafted high in the first round.

What we have seen in the last five years is society saying “it’s okay to quit. It’s okay to play for the name on the back of the jersey instead of the name on the front.” Former pro player on the radio this morning said when you got to the NFL you could see that many in the locker room were there just for the pay check. And that’s what you guys are trying to bring to college now. Congrats.

This is outrageous!
Who was responsible for raising all these young people and failing to teach them proper values?
The parents and grandparents of these greedy young adults should be called task!

18-20yr old kid who I really could give a damn about other than about 2 hrs on Saturdays in the fall, doesn't want to play in a game that in the grand scheme of things really only matters to me the fan. So now I'm on a crusade to say a kid I've never met or talked to is a loser and a quitter and doesn't give a damn or have any heart.

All you everything was better 50 years ago, guys need to be put out to pasture. Again I don't have a problem with 1st or 2nd day picks opting out. If you are not that then you should play, but you cant truly judge any person fairly without actually meeting them.

Could you imagine players like Art Cantrelle or Tommy Casanova “opting out”, I don’t think so. Yeah, that’s right, I’ve been around. Been around long enough to see our culture turn from “we” to “me”.

They are probably to young to remember Andrew luck or Sam Bradford. Both got injured and was still the number one overall pick.

There are plenty of nfl and college athletes that get injured, still make life changing money, and have great careers. Did burrow’s injury last year stop him this year? Just because you “may” get injured doesn’t mean your career is over.

You may not get injured as well. Living in the fear of a “may get injured” mind set is weak. In most instances it will decide your ultimate fate of never reaching your ultimate potential as well.

It is easy to say that as it isn't a reality for you. Tell a running back that has maxed out their draft potential and these manufactured games become an unnecessary risk. We all know Div II has it figured out and Div I needs to accept it can't milk anymore blood from this stone
