bullshite. We respect him first bc he is one of the best football players to have every played at LSU, second bc he took his punishment and never bad-mouthed LSU, third bc he has turned his life around and become a tremendous NFL player, and fourth bc he is still a great advocate for LSU.

This was a good post. Mathieu is a great example to present to a young man who may be going down the wrong path.

You really think this is close to the same thing?

If there is a great story about R. Perrilloux turning his life around I would love to hear it.
If he has continued to vigorously support LSU after leaving here, I would like to hear about that, too.
Truth is, Ryan P had more pure talent that Mathieu and did nothing with it.
Oh, and Hypocrates was one of my favorite Greek philosophers.

There may be some truth to that, though you really need to learn to spell.

But that's not the point.

You get shite named after you around here when you donate big bucks--at least seven figures--to build it.

Mathieu did.

RP didn't.

End of story.

Y'all he was busted for smoking pot. We act like he was on the verge of becoming a serial killer

Enough times to get himself kicked off the LSU football team. It had obviously become a huge issue if it came to that. It could have cost him millions, and an NFL future. So I would say thats a pretty big turn around.

I'm sure he still smokes now, along with 50% of the other NFL players. Probably just smarter about it.

This guy has a point.

Where is love for Rashard Robinson, maea teheuma, and Cecil Collins? It's just not fair!

I also think we should name the campus holding cell after that Trey LMFAO fella. That dude might be a criminal but he wore purple and gold at one point damn it!

Edit: I see a few downvotes on my comment and I hope it's clear that I'm being sarcastic, that guy is a moron. If the downvotes are because you don't think I'm funny, fair enough. But please don't anyone think that I want the holding cell named after Trey LMFAO. It would make his cell mates at whatever prison he is currently located very jealous of he received such notoriety and I would fear for his safety. Carry on

This is a really interesting juxtaposition. On the one hand Mathieu may have been the most impactful LSU player in the last 40 years. On the other, he's a guy who's career at LSU ended by him getting kicked off the team after only 2 seasons for disciplinary reasons. Yes, LSU is naming it after him because of the significant monetary donation. But they are also celebrating a guy whose habitual disregard of team/school rules got him dismissed from the program to the detriment of his fellow teammates.

I suppose you could say to some degree LSU's most celebrated player, Billy Cannon, has a similar story and his number is retired. However, Cannon's "public" legal issues didn't come until much later in his life well after his LSU playing days were over.

Does it look bad to have your Player's Lounge named after a former player who only played two (albeit great) seasons before getting kicked out of the program because he refused to follow the rules? Probably.

Do the current and potential future players care? No

A great players' lounge is a recruiting tool, plain and simple. Some may not like the fact it is named after a player who was dismissed from the team. But if it helps land future great players I'm sure those people will "get over it"

money talks. Maybe he will return to LSU and get his degree. I've always been a fan of Mathieu.....but had he not donated 1 million dollars would they still have named the players lounge after him.................?

The PMAC was named for a player who did not graduate from the University.

This is very good for recruiting. Don't know of any high school player who doesn't like Matheiu. Very relatable story of a guy who got caught up in some trouble but kept his dream alive

If you do not think LSU fans are proud of Mathieu for turning his life around, you are wrong. And I do not think I am alone in being thoroughly disgusted with the behaviors by Tyrann that caused him to let down the team and the university.
I am now a big fan (again) and it is NOT just because of his talent. He's a great success story, and he'll tell you LSU played a role in the turnaround of his life.

maybe, but his rookie contract had no guaranteed money and came with it the provision for random drug screenings. So I'd imagine if Mathieu is smoking now, he wasn't his first few years in the league

You are so wrong in this. Yes, Matthieu made a mistake, but so many others simply go and enroll somewhere else like Perriloux, Teuheima, and others. He never lost his love for LSU. That is a big difference.
