And we didn't pass protect like we needed and you all know the rest.

Do you think Coach O will look back at that decision and have any regret? Majority of coaches would just run the clock out in that situation. take the outcome of that play out of the equation and it's still a questionable call.

Like the aggressiveness but damn, you better block on that play.

It is a mistake that maybe the Oline can learn from...

Situational football I like aggressiveness but sometimes it's like they are trying to hard.

Should have ran the ball, and if you get one first down or break a long run then go aggressive

With all due respect, you sound like a miserable frick to make such a thread the morning after a solid conference win

I said with all due respect

In that situation, best to run some max protect passing plays. With Etling in shotgun with 2 Running backs on each side of him for extra blocking. That is such a crucial part of the field, and playaction can stump you every now and again.

Not regret it, but learn from it. My guess is he'll run it next time in that situation. If you pick up 10-15 yards, then you go hurry up.

Of course.

Look. It wasn't a great call in that situation but, it's not like it was the dumbest thing ever either

I like Sabans philosophy in that situation...if you pop a run for a first down then you get aggressive

On the flip (the script) side.....with the benefit of hindsight, I am glad it happened so the Ole Miss got a new sense of hope only to have it crushed again!

Teahuma should/will have to pay a penalty - gassers until he pukes, maybe?.

He should have at least interfered with the rusher - a hold or a tackle would have been better than a possible season-changing (ending?) loss of Etling.

ETA: possible

It was a bad play no doubt, but this is the downside of being aggressive vs conservative. Offense opens up generally but you have to accept increasing possibility of negative plays. Ole miss blitzed and execution was not good.

It's hard for me to be critical of aggressive play calling with results like what we've been seeing. We can't focus criticism on single plays because an offense is a collection of plays/trends that fit together over an entire game, including the possibility of negative plays and throwing or running at times when not expected.

I don't question O's philosophy here. Had we completed the pass you would be talking about how great the call was

Defensive lineman stumbles momentarily allowing Etling to get the pass off. Ole Miss corner over plays the ball going for an interception and misses; LSU receiver takes it to the house.

Result

Everybody talks about what a brilliant call that was. One of you claims that it was Saban-istic.
