Not when LSU hitting will make one of these guys:

Woods, Beck, Dorsey, Thompson, Fontenot…these guys have thrown a combined 13.1 innings all year.

Look like Gregg Maddux.

Shores appears to be a complete head case. He comes in the 2nd inning after the homerun and double and strikes out the first 2 guys he faces and makes it look easy. Just blowing 100 past people.

Then he gets squeezed on a batter the next inning and completely loses it after that.

Rizy and Mayers seem to behave similarly. One thing goes wrong and they explode and can’t find the zone anymore

They are going to pitch Wells at some point. Whoever LSU throws better keep it under 5. I’m not convinced this lineup is capable of more than that.

They lose control so quickly and don't have a knack for getting it back.

I was really happy with Cooper Williams though. IDK why Jay pulled him as early as he did.

Eyanson

I definitely think he could give an inning or 2 if needed given he has had 2 full days rest plus late start tonight.

I would actually be surprised if he doesn’t get the ball if it’s close in the 8th or 9th.

Hopefully we wouldn't need him, but Cooper could probably give us another 30-40 pitches tonight.

Flip side is did they really hit the ball that well last night?

Outside of one guy with 2 big hits, they didn’t hit the ball consistently until the 8th when Jay left Mayers and Rizy out there to die. I think Williams retired 12 in a row at one point. We walked a bunch of guys and they took advantage of it on three occasions.

Jay has already said that part of the reason Eyanson started Friday was so that he could pitch tonight if needed. Hopefully the bats make sure that isn't necessary because I don't want it to frick us for next weekend

Their entire staff has an ERA of 6.37 and they are playing their fifth game in five days. LSU should score significantly more than 6.37 runs. In UALR’s game 5. These are not elite arms. How many ER has LSU scored against them in 2 games?

Btw, I define LR pitching success as holding LSU to less than 10 runs. LR is playing its 5th game in 4 days, they are 26-33 in the OVC, they have a team ERA of 6.37. On no planet should LSU score less than 10 runs against this team in this context.

If LSU can't take 1 out of 2 games vs LR with the pitchers both have, then they really didn't deserve to advance anyway and aren't a team that would have made it out of the Super, either.

You can count on whoevere they throw out there to pitch the game of their life. The question is, can LSU hit the ball like they are capable of.

I mean, you are acting like this was a one of. Have you not watched our bullpen all year? Have you not seen the struggles our Sunday guys have had down the stretch? Have you not seen our bats.

Have you watched the last month? Has the pen had this kind of walk problem lately? Other than one game vs USC (and that was mostly Ware, Schmidt and Rizy), they’ve been really good when we’ve needed them. Noot and Shores held down Ole Miss for over half the game just last week away from the Box. That wasn’t a mirage. That’s how they’ve been playing recently. Yeah, they didn’t have it and it didn’t happen last night, but THIS was the aberration in recent results, not the other way around.

As for the bats, they were fine Friday and blazing hot Saturday. Hitting alone wasn’t even the issue last night. Curiel, Milam and Hernandez have been great. The issue was timely hitting.

If we can get Brown and Frey playing better tonight and hit with RISP half as well as Saturday, we will win by double digits tonight.

Great data and analysis, unfortunately when you get beyond your first two starters, it's not pitching that wins. It's the bats. Looks like Curial and Milan are coming back around. Need to improve the bats at #2 and #8.

This 100%. It's flat out embarrassing the "talent" that's been accumulated for this team's bullpen. No one has gotten better from this group all season

Don’t care who’s pitching if we hit the ball with runners on and not walk batters we should win. If we do what we did last night it will be more of the same and we will squander a great opportunity to play super regionals at the Box

Strictly a guess here, but ...

Four pitchers LSU should see tonight (with workload this weekend):

--Jack Cline 5.06 ERA (35 pitches Saturday) Threw 129 pitches in OVC championship game on May 24
--Blake Van Cleve 5.73 ERA (32 pitches Saturday/9 Sunday Gm. 1)
--Brenden Katz 7.32 ERA (22 pitches Friday/37 pitches Sunday Gm. 2)
--Josh Beezley 10.03 ERA (25 pitches Friday) 2 scoreless IP vs. LSU
