Pitchers by total innings pitched this year and availability for today
Posted on 6/3/24 at 2:56 pm
Posted on 6/3/24 at 2:56 pm
38 Luke Holman 91.2 (109 pitches Saturday - unavailable)
23 Gage Jump 81.0 (102 pitches Friday - may be available in limited role)
35 Griffin Herring 50.1 (pitched yesterday - unavailable)
26 Thatcher Hurd 44.0 (pitched yesterday - unavailable)
30 Nate Ackenhausen 42.0
32 Kade Anderson 38.1 (pitched yesterday - may not be available)
99 Christian Little 29.2 (injured - unavailable)
17 Samuel Dutton 27.2
49 Javen Coleman 24.2
1 Gavin Guidry 24.1
6 Justin Loer 24.1
40 Fidel Ulloa 23.1
48 Will Hellmers 17.2
0 Aiden Moffett 17.2
Not having Little for 2 to 4 innings will be a big difference, but things can be pieced together if Ack and Coleman (and Dutton if needed) can get through the first 5 or 6 innings.
ETA - edited as suggested by replies - thanks for the input

Jump is 100% available today

Losing Little for this regional sucks but we must overcome this. This is not Jay's first rodeo. All I got is
LFG!!!!

Figured he wouldn't be available?

I would think so - maybe not 4 or 5 innings, but if you needed 2 or 3 quality innings from him, sure.
This is a Charlie Wholestaff situation for 27 outs.

I wouldn't say 100%. But I wouldn't be surprised if he pitched an inning, or at least a couple of batters, late if the game is tight. Same for Herring. Put them in the "break glass in case of emergency" category as I'm certain Jay doesn't want to have to use either. Holman and Hurd are probably the only "no go" guys.
The thinking is different if/when your season is on the line.

Jump is available. Kade isn’t.

No way JJ pitches Jump.

I wouldn't be so certain Jump isn't available for 3 outs. Landon Marceaux was in a similar position in 2021. Started game 1 of the Oregon regional, throwing 100+ pitches, then closed out the final game against Oregon.
Ma'Khail Hilliard started the first and final games of the Southern Miss regional in 2022, albeit he only threw 3 innings in the first game.
I also wouldn't completely rule out Herring to throw 15-20 pitches if we absolutely need him.

I am thinking Moffett gets the rock today.

It's his BP day and teh season is literally on the line. He absolutely can be in for an inning or two if we need it.

Coleman
Ack
Ulloa
These guys have pitched very well at times vs. good competition.
They HAVE to all have big outings.
If any one of them falter, we're done, IMO.

I hope y'all are right about Jump. It just seems like the coaches have been limiting him as much as possible due to the TJ injury.
If he was going to throw a bullpen today then he should be good for a limited number of pitches.

That's only 2 1/2 days rest for JUMP....don't see him pitching

It is his regular scheduled bullpen day. This means he would normally throw 50 to 60 pitches at full velocity.
Jump can absolutely go one inning if he is needed and expresses his desire to take the mound tonight in a crucial situation. He's that Dog.

I think he steps up too.
Every guy needs to be able to get another couple outs above what they've been asked to do in the past.

Marceaux came back and threw 50+ pitches to close out that regional final. And if I recall Fontenot was down in the pen ready to go, looking like a caged animal.

I would start him and let him face the top of the order.
