re: Photo Dump from my archives... Last regular season game at The (Old) Box

That was a totally asinine decision by the "Powers That Be" who made it.
Teams that were building new facilities were using the Box against LSU in recruiting. It was harder and harder to recruit kids based on the magic of the box when the locker room was small and old, the team room was small and old, there was no weight room, no indoor cage, and no indoor bullpen.
I loved the old Box went to countless games and spent hours there working baseball camp but it had to go for the program to keep up.

The steeper slope of the Old Box grandstand looks so much better. Old Stadiums had an intimacy that can’t be replaced. The corporate sterileness of the New Box is awful.

I was there. I got a quilt somewhere that has the t-shirt sewn into it.

My arse, after sitting 4 hours on aluminum, doesn't have a corporate feel to it.

Thanks for sharing. Awesome to see.
I have always wished they would mark/paint the old locations in that lot like many other iconic stadiums (Shea, Old Comiskey, etc). I'd love to walk over and know that I'm standing at the original home plate or first base.

It is still an absolute and utter shame that the university didn't do something similar to what Rosenblatt did in that location. The fact that we have a Mathernes and a Torchy's Tacos there with parking lots is so disrespectful to the magic that stadium had.

I miss rosenblatt

I just rewatched the videos on YouTube from that Irvine Super Regional. Was quite the way to send that magical place out. I miss the Old Box…

Have you been to both stadiums?
They both have their own pros and cons. I deleted a long rant analyzing the two, but I think it’s fair to say Charles Schwab Field/TD Ameritrade Park is far from a “joke.”
I understand people being frustrated and even angry with the destruction of an Americana landmark like Rosenblatt. I was one of those people years ago and remained of that opinion for several years after the move. But there’s a lot of positives that have come from the changes. LSU has benefitted from it. Omaha has certainly benefited from it. And while the quality of the game definitely regressed after BBCOR bats were implemented but before the transition to the flat-seamed balls, the sport of college baseball is in a much better place now and has a much better future with the current park in Omaha.

I actually never been to Omaha before
I’m basing it on what I’ve watched on tv and highlights

Well I won’t pile on your take given you’ve never been to either, but I would honestly recommend you take the effort to plan a trip to Omaha for the opening weekend of CWS and commit to going regardless of whether LSU makes it or not.
Stay at one of the hotels downtown or in the Old Market, that way you’re walking distance to the stadium and all the festivities, bars/restaurants, etc. (most hotels also have shuttle service for the games too). I’d wager you’d come back with an extremely positive opinion of the park and the event as a whole. In this day and age of atrocious event planning / customer service (outside of luxury / exclusive events), it is a very, very well run event.
Despite what’s seemingly the public’s perception, Omaha is a clean, vibrant city. It’s refreshing to see the caliber of the downtown in such a large city (over 1 million metro) that is home to 4 Fortune 500 companies, and there’s a number of activities to do and things to see outside of going to watch a baseball game. Louisiana could never

Look how steep and close to the field the stands are.
That's why I think the old Box was louder than the new Box, despite the new Box holding thousands more people.

2008 is my favorite LSU baseball season in history and they didn’t even win it all. I was graduating high school and didn’t have anything important to do except watch LSU baseball. Everything came together perfectly with the last season at the Old Box and winning 23 games in a row. LSU baseball was appointment TV/radio during that run. I went to a bunch of games that season before they started winning, which made the winning streak even more special.
I skipped my “mandatory” LSU freshman orientation (a sign of things to come for classes at LSU) to stand in line for SRO tickets to game 3 of the UC Irvine Super Regional. It wasn’t even a question.
