re: Phil Steele LSU/Bama Game Notes

I buy his magazine every year just for the compilation of stats he has for every team. That's it's only use. His unit rankings are laughable. He spends half the magazine sucking his own cock about how he has made a few predictions correct. His "surprise teams" are mostly top 25 ranked teams... from Bobby Boucher, "by keeping his predictions vague and generalized, there's less of a chance of someone finding out he's a phony."

wow terrible
if he would research he would see that photo of Reid during the int and it was clear as day, a jump ball. He should rip Maze for throwing a shot put or zero first downs for Bama in OT

we all know the media and press wanted bama to win that game. All anyone does now is try to eviscerate LSU's victory but if Bama won it would be lauding their incredible team and effort and how they are a de facto #1 supreme team.
Yep. If Bama had won with a FG in OT, they would be crowned the greatest team in history because they could blow people out AND win the close one.
LSU would have not been heard from again this season and we would have dropped to around #7.
Forget the media. I hope that the team is reading all of this and sees the disrespect. They have to go out and earn this championship and in the long run, the disrespect right now is better than being praised.
Now, let's destroy WKU, Ole Miss, Arkansas, and whoever the East throws at us.

His preseason mag is garbage too and shows what is wrong with preseason rankings to begin with when you make rankings based on your perceived outcomes to end the year.
wut? What should you make preseason predictions based on exactly if not what you think will happen?

Over the years his preseason picks have been more accurate than most. I'm guessing most of you were not so mad back in 2003 when he picked LSU as a dark horse contender for the NC.

Who does this guy write for?

Y'all do realize Phil Steele is a stat man, right? He's only concerned about yardage, stats stats stats. He's pretty shitty w/ point spreads.

He sounds pretty pissed that he was so wrong with his 17-6 Bama win prediction.
No he is just pissed cause his mag will end up being wrong. He had picked OU and Bama in the Title game and looks like they both won't make it.

He's a capper, and positions himself as an analytical one. Overall I think his analysis is pretty good even vs the #, he was wrong on this one. Picking Bama to cover 4.5-5 was reasonable, calling it 24-6 was not.

If you are right about Oregon beating Stanford and OU wins out, i think they will make it. But if they lose to OSU, both Bama and OU will prolly finish in the top 10. Bama will probably finish 2 or 3 if they win out.

Ok new rules for Bama but only Bama so they don't cry so much. For every other FG miss they get a free do over.

That was the 1st Steele mag I ever bought. Got 1 every year since. A valuable stat and a quick schedule guide. Over all the #'s are pretty good.

He's pretty shitty about writing too from reading that. Brutal.

Phil Steele blog
email webmaster@Philsteele.com your comments about the site.
I had to go to the site myself just to check the OP initial post. I too cant believe someone would write it like this. I understand he's all about stats so his angle is that this W for LSU doesnt make sense in his mind. He needs to look at how we dominate teams while generating <400 yards per game on O and still drop 40 on them. Eric Reid's play was no fluke. And all the other plays we've created this year dont show up on Phil Steeles spreadsheets....THIS IS WHY YOU MUST WATCH FOOTBALL GAMES, PHil!
Dont rely on these liars...er, statisticians.

defensive holding on an incomplete pass on 3&4, would get a 19 yd FG
Yeah that holding penalty made our FG 19 yards instead of 21.

Dude is butthurt bad.
