Phil Steele has LSU ranked 7th in the SECW and outside the T60 in his preseason rankings.

He mentions lack of returning starters (LSU with 11) compared to others, but the average number of starters returning in the SEC is 13 with Mississippi St leading the way with 17.
Honestly, are we better off with returning starters after we include starters we added from the transfer portal?
I’m sure when LSU finishes much higher than his projections, Steele will point to some obscure comment that he can count as a correct prediction.

I wouldn't listen to that idiot. His ‘Steele locks of the week picks’, are 90% incorrect (straight up pick’em and/or versus spread).

He also had Washington as his surprise team last year and they were dogshite.

O-line seems like addition by subtraction despite the the draft picks.
The old regime had shite in such turmoil projections seem impossible.

What did Steele predict for us in 2019 ?
He is a Clown.
He is a Clown.

Steele is a washed up relic
He hasn’t been accurate since the mid 2000s
He still thinks it’s the 90s where things like “returning experience” are key record for good seasons

Transfers have completely wrecked that mindset.

Is he rating transfers and adding that in? If not, his shite is useless

Phil Steele is the biggest hack in the game.
His books are filled with why he is the greatest, and inaccurate info that he conveniently retroactively changes to make himself right. Example: Notre Dame was number 19 on my dark horse teams that might possibly could make the playoffs!

He does include them in the individual position rankings, but I don’t see him thoroughly evaluating guys like Banks, Frazier, Shorts, Cain, Foucha, Brooks, Weeks, Wingo, Garner, Lacy, Fields, JBC, etc as starter/key player additions to the team as a whole.
Except, when he ranks Ricks as a 1st team AA at Alabama.

In the age of college free agency, the idea of predicting seasons based on returning starters is laughable.

Magazine guys like this don’t matter anymore with the transfer portal. By the time they come out some team could add a key impact player

I mean logically it makes sense. The program went to shite within 2 years of a natty. BK has done well with recruiting and the portal out of necessity.
That said 90% of the optimism is placed on total unknowns and the belief that an entirely new staff can turn shite around super quick with an unproven and depleted roster. I'm not a huge Steele fan but his comments aren't exactly a reach if you're thinking rationally.

I wish every prognosticator would pick us so low.
