You could build as college dream team with the players LSU lost to out of state schools in the 90s.

To be fair, UT was in something of a near free fall before Fulmer and Chavis left.

Guys, LSU may have not had "the 90s" had it not been for an unfortunate plane crash which put everything in a hurry-up hire mode and created a path until Saban came on board.

..actually the spiral and vacillation went on from 1980 on..

How is expecting to win the conference and be competitive in our conference unrealistic? We just got destroyed in our only two SEC games.

This is what is wrong with Miles supporters, they are stupid. Just down right ignorant.

After Fulmer lost his last BCS bowl game (1999), he remained NINE (9) more years. Wanna know how those 9 years went?

2 losing seasons
2 seasons without a bowl
4 bowl losses, vs only 3 wins
4 years without being ranked
4 years ranked outside the top 10
1 year, ONE out of 9 ranked in the Top 10!
0 ZERO BCS bowl appearances, NONE! Not one

And you brainless halfwits think they let him go too soon? He won 3 lesser bowls in 9 years. THREE!

How much worse did it need to get?

Miles is on the same path. Lost his last bowl game in 2011 (embarrassingly). Not ranked in final Top 10 since then, and currently unranked. Has only 1 lesser bowl win, and is struggling to make a bowl this year.

And you want that for 7+ more years?

Yes no shite. And as far as anyone can recruit F Miles you've just proved my point that it takes more than any coach which was my original point. Didn't know I had to spell it out.

Is the young crowd, or the new crowd creating the stir?

Nice effort, but...fail.

exactly. just because a guy wins a title does not mean he is infallible and cannot go downhill and need to go. According to some here if a guy wins a title keep him forever regardless!

zook went and UF got better with Meyer

donnan went and UGA got better with richt

shula went and bama got better with saban

bowden(nc coach btw) went and FSU got better with jimbo

chizik (nc coach btw) went and auburn got better with malzahn.

sure, you will have times like coker at miami and fulmer at Tennessee were those two programs are struggling to get back but it does not mean those two coaches were not at the end of their rope and on a downswing for good nor that is was bad to dump them.

Texas kept Mack 3 to 4 years too long and they are paying the price now.

Seriously? Are you really comparing the current state of the LSU program to this?

ETA - pretty sad just how delusional some of our fans are and how entitled they feel. I've been a season ticket holder for 25 years and I can remember the dark days when I couldn't give the tickets away...Pretty much everyone knew we'd likely take some lumps this season....this year is a developmental year for all the young talent. The fans need so show a little patience and support this team and the coaches.

no it is when a school waits years too long to replace a washed up coach. UT and LSU aren't comparable. UT is a program that depends on out of state recruiting and mostly national recruiting. They have talent close to them but hardly in-state. They also should have canned fulmer after the 05 season. so they waited years too late before doing so.

LSU is not going to pull a tennessee because we have legitimate in-state talent. When we have a coach that fences in our borders we go on great runs, once we start letting too much talent leak out we have problems.

It is imperative for programs to fire a coach at the right time, if you fire too late you end up like Tennessee and Texas. They had good coaches that became cancers because of how they ran the program. They hung on for a time being and now they are both stuck in shite for a while.

Nebraska much like Tennessee doesn't have home state kids to scoop up and they fired a coach too quickly.

IMO when a coach fails to make a bowl at LSU than its time for the axe to come down on him.

Valid points basically, but neither Malzhan nor Freeze has been at his present school that long. I see you said maybe for Freeze.

Also, though it seems like his every move is closely scrutinized by the media and college football experts, it is way too early to declare Strong as a coach who did not work out at Texas. And I say that as someone who really despises the Univ. of Texas.

From 2010-2013 LSU is 44-9 in the toughest division in the toughest conference in the country. Which is a 0.83 winning %

With a 13-1 8-0 season in there.

So frick you

Dinardo was not a good coach, and still managed 9 and 10 win seasons after he cleaned up Hallmans mess. He got fired because he hired and kept an absolute buffoon for a defensive coordinator. He also managed to get plenty of good talent, when he could keep them out of jail.

Miles was a barely over .500 coach before he got the benefits of recruiting at LSU.

You people that think LSU would automatically slide back into the Hallman debacle with a new coach need to be medicated.

Sort of like the Auburn fans, Ole Miss and Ms State fans did. Oh wait, they all had sense enough to "hire up" after canning their coaches and, Shazam, Sergeant Carter, gee those other 3 teams sure are looking better than ours".
