Elias Ricks

quote:

Ricks was one of the few positives in LSU’s 2020 season-opening loss to Mississippi State in Week 4. The five-star freshman gave up a couple of explosive plays but picked off a pass and broke up another en route to a 75.9 coverage grade. This week, he managed to top that.

Ricks played 25 coverage snaps on the outside, and he allowed just one catch for 4 yards while intercepting one and forcing an incompletion.

Those two impressive performances have made him the third-highest-graded outside cornerback in the FBS behind Shemar Jean-Charles of App State and Rodarius Williams of Oklahoma State.

The 6-foot-2, 196-pound true freshman has excelled in press coverage with his length and strength, which is rare to see from a first-year player right out the gate. With Ricks and Derek Stingley Jr. (who didn’t allow a single yard in coverage in Week 5) manning the outside while Cordale Flott takes over the slot, it’s hard to argue against LSU — A.K.A. DBU — having the best secondary in college football.

Said it last week: Stingley + Ricks will be one of if not the best CB duo in CFB by the end of the year

ETA: They may already be one of the best actually

If we can get the linebackers figured out, this is going to be a nasty defense.

No doubt a new favorite DB. Reading that analysis really leads me to believe that we would have beaten Ms. St. had Stingley been available. One player would've made the difference.

Two picks in his first two starts. Not too bad. Even if we got shredded by Miss St.

Greedy William's brother. Anyone know if we recruited him?

Damn, Rodarius is Greedy’s brother. It’s just filthy how much DB talent Louisiana pumps out. Kaufman almost housed that kickoff on us too.

I cannot understand why we didn't recruit Kaufman. He's from NOLA and was the best player on Rummel's state champion team last year. He was an absolute beast.

Next year they might be the best duo since Peterson and Claiborne.

Was friends with both in HS Lee Lee didn't show the potential in HS that Greedy did although greedy was a low rated 4 star himself but didnt have the ball skills greedy had, also Lee Lee is a year younger but their mom decided to move him up a grade so they could graduate together

I said this time and time again, and was met with rantards throwing an autistic fit every time. It was very obvious that was the difference in the game.

LSU fans have to realize that the Pelini defense, that utilizes linemen as attackers, has a corresponding negative effect on the stats of LBers.

Aranda's scheme, that uses the dline to eat up blocks, allows the LBers to roam and make plays. We got used to those LB stats, and now we think they suck because they are only getting 2 or 3 tackles in a game. Get used to it. The days of a MLB getting 10 tackles are gone with this scheme.

Very good point. I watched some of the Baylor WVU game and the LB's didn't attack as much and played to keep everything in front of them. We switched to have the "attacking" defense so now it's live and die by it

Agree. But those dl can’t miss tackles. If they do and a ol has a lb blocked. That’s big gains. I miss aranda personally. I think bo is great and things will settle down I just like the 3/4 better. More multiple. And it was dumb for home slice to go to TCU.

And add that often the DE has containment on the ends and the short flats which makes us susceptible to the RB hot routes. The LBs and NBs often have to cut these plays off

If we didn't have so many opt outs we would be really loaded again. Ricks is as good a true freshman I have seen since...

well, since Stingley... LOL
