I've been thinking/hoping that this was the case all season: basically we couldn't get a DC that we really liked last year so in order to buy some time we bit the bullet this season on two guys who could easily be shifted around when we do get our guy.
No one moved here and bought a house and transplanted their family. This should make for an easy transition during this offseason.

I know that it's the head coach's call, but I would think that the new DC should have some say on who his position coaches are on that side of the ball.
When Miles does make a move, I believe that Peveto would be a better hold over as a position coach than Mallory. Personally, I was never thrilled that Miles brought Mallory along from Okie St to begin with considering how pitiful their defenses were, but I was so happy that Miles brought in BP as the DC that I didn't think that it was a huge deal.

I cant imagine a high quality DC not wanting his own guys. I have heard one of the problems with Franklin at AU was the Tubby guys on his staff he couldnt replace!

Just out of curiosity, what makes you all think that Les will make a change at all?
Does anyone have any evidence to support the theory that Les will hire a DC? Or are we just assuming what Les Miles will do??
I sure fricking hope the complete bullshite he spews about things being OK at the press conferences is just lip-service, cause if it's not........we're in big, BIG trouble

They will be assigned back to position coaches. Which is fine by me at this point.
Doesn't Mallory coach DB's and Peveto coach LB's? So they spent so much time scheming as Co-DC's that they neglected their duties as position coaches? Both positions played horrendous this year.
Whomever the new DC is needs to use a scheme that is easy to learn and execute. Let all the fast athletes use their abilties without having to THINK about it. When they have to THINK, we're dead in the water.........

Mallory is a terrible coach but Peveto may be the dumbest person currently living in Louisiana.

Let me get your opinion on a possible scenario?
Mallory and Peveto go back to position coaching. We get rid of Lane and bring in a DC?

Mallory stays as position coach, buh bye Pevito. Or maybe not...just a guess.

might I remind you of the players that Bradley Dale is currently recruiting ??
since he covers the Houston area, I think the Rant would have a meltdown if we lost one particular Houston recruit.
I'm just sayin' !!!

Man, this is a hot post! There was one reply when I started typing and when I hit enter, I was on page 2!
I'm going on faith that LM is smart enough to know that:
a.) The defense sucks, and it's almost entirely on the Co-DCs
b.) Les Miles is still in favor with the fans and the administration in Baton Rouge. If makes adjustments with his coaching staff this year and hires a top-notch DC, he will remain popular around here. If he doesn't then...
c.) It will be HIS arse on the line next year

Someone needs to get fired in order to get an outside DC. There is no way around that.

why are we keeping those 2 and ditching Lane?
and why'd Karl Dunbar leave, who did he have problem with, Pelini?

This has been my beleif. Mallory probably could stay as DC...we just need a good LB/DB positions coach.

Perhaps Less could get them another job in the Athletic Department, taking ticket orders, or doing something less distructive.

Well, I'm not entirely sure about Peveto but I think Mallory is a pretty good recruiter and I don't think we had this much problem with the DBs before (now that Mallory is concerned with overall schemes too). Have you been happy with the DL play (considering it's supposed to be our strength and certainly is the oldest unit)? I know Lane is a great recruiter.....but I'm guessing we can find a DC that would make up for it.

That's what I had heard.

Key word...emboldened.
And like all faith-based discussions, I have to ask the obvious:
What is your faith based on?
Cause honestly....I don't see it.

there's no concrete evidence its gonna happen but "people in the know" hear things and there's definitely rumblings somethings going on. Conflict among coaches. but again, thats what I heard which doesnt mean shite.

Peveto is the better recruiter of the two. I dont think Mallory has landed any recruits since he's been here. No Miles recruited DBs have developed either.
Peveto is a shitty LB coach, a horrendous co-defensive coordinator and worse at special teams coaching than both of those jobs.
They both need to go entirely. Especially since if you keep them around they will be malcontents jealous of their new boss ala Auburn's current offensive staff.
