Notre Dame's best recruiting class the last 3 years finished 9th in the class rankings. LSU's worst finished 5th. ND's average class rank was 14, LSU's average was 4.

Where in that article did you find anything positive about LSU from Pete?

How good is the LSU job? Both Les Miles and Orgeron, the last two coaches, have won national titles there. And there aren’t a lot of coaches who respect Miles or Orgeron as strategists or leaders. Big characters? Sure. One chews grass and the other runs through campus with his shirt off. Big personalities, definitely. Few are more fun to do impressions of.
But as far as high-end football coaches go, Miles and Orgeron aren’t in the same sphere as the other title-winning coaches of this generation: Nick Saban, Urban Meyer or Dabo Swinney.
The real star in Baton Rouge has always been the LSU job itself — the local talent so rich and the fan base so passionate that even Miles and Orgeron could overcome their coaching shortcomings and win at the highest levels.

What are you talking about? I was providing some context for why Kelly's 0-7 record against top 5 teams shouldn't automatically be held against him when he's recruiting at a much lower level than what he would do here.

Yeah, that is actually a slam on LSU
So LSU hired dumbasses
We lucked into those wins
Still banging on LSUs inability to find a decent coach
translation: LSU has been inept for decades. They were graced with Saban righting the ship, but he sure as hell wasnt staying. The teams wins on talent alone.

Well, I mean it's not an untrue statement. Quit being so sensitive.

Exactly… The last three LSU coaches have won titles.

Woodward got Mulkey to leave Baylor - maybe he can finally be the one to close the deal on a top tier coach.
This is definitely a top-tier job, but it isn’t Bama. That’s really the only school that could get anyone they want right now. Just look at Texas. They made a good hire, but Sark wasn’t a top head coach. Florida has hired from the top of G5 twice. Oklahoma promoted a very young OC. Day isn’t as young as Riley, but he’s another promotion for a very high profile school that could have made a bigger splash. A&M got Fisher away from FSU (and we could have in 2015), but that was because he was very unhappy with the situation there and everyone knew it. It’s hard to think of another coach in a high mid-tier to top P5 job that’s known to be unhappy where they are today.
USC likely won’t be able to get an established guy. I think we will be choosing from that same rising, up and comer pool that most programs work from. I love that Woodward got Mulkey, but like him, she has ties here. There’s also a lot less money and a little more job security in the women’s hoops job than in SEC Football. There are reasons that successful P5 coaches rarely make big moves.
I think we can still make a hire that’s as good or better than anyone else looking.

Debatable comment about bama. And really the only reason it’d be true if it even was is bc a monkey could coach that talent for 4 years post Saban and get a natty. See Miles 2007

You don’t think Bama would draw a few established head coaches that no other program could get? There is only one thing that would work against them- not wanting to be the guy who followed Saban.
However, like you said, with the setup they have and systems in place, a good to very good coach will keep on winning at a very high level because of what Saban has built there. I’m sure a lot of guys who wouldn’t consider us would still jump at that chance.

Oh, I'm not. I agree with pretty much everything he wrote. It is sad, but true that LSU is still seen as a dumpster fire after 3NCs plus a 4th trip since Saban came on board
We are run horribly, yet we still win with dumbasses at the helm. Thats not at all a positive article for the program. He us basically saying we are the Cleveland Indians in the movie Major League

I'm not following this line of thinking at all. It's not like we had the same AD for those hires.

Woodward is going big.
He lures NS back to Baton Rouge, appealing to his EGO and the chance to rebuild a torn down LSU program.
It's well know that Nick regrets leaving LSU.
How much $$$$$$ would it take?

Bertman was a baseball guy. he didnt throw money at Saban to keep him, or put much effort into his replacement
After Duke, Alleva should have been untouchable, but Miles is protected and Ed is elevated because Jindal and JBE had their fingers in too many football decisions.
