I remember hearing that back in the 1990s, the old Ag Coliseum basketball locker rooms were accessible and you could see Pete Maravich's locker room with "Pete 23" stenciled above it. Does anyone know if they got rid of this room, and if not, how to access it? Here it is in an SI story: LINK

The building itself today is liking stepping into a time warp. Granted they do use it for rodeos and garden shows, but I can't imagine much has changed since the basketball team played there given how it looks/smells inside.

There was a thread a few years ago that talked about the "secrets of LSU". This was mentioned, along with the tunnel system, the racquetball courts at the Huey long Field House (as well as the rest of the complex), the roof of the PMAC, Tiger Stadium dorms, etc.

I guess it was an urban exploration discussion specific to LSU. Lots of good stuff in that thread.

Cool! I would love to see the thread, if you can find it. I'm going to do a search too.

Any info on the Maravich locker would be appreciated. I tried going today and couldn't find anything but based on past comments, I know it's there (or was). I really have no idea why they would take it down. Anyone been?

If you're real adventurous you could probably find a way into the old Field House, but for the less ambitious who want a look at the old swimming pool, there's an outdoor stairwell on an adjacent building to the east of the Field House (right behind the PMAC) that if you go to the top you can look down into the pool area. It's not the greatest view, but it's the only time I've been able to put my own eyes on the place, and it's pretty cool. You could tell what a gem it was during its day... like a Roman spa, or something. It's a shame it's sitting there wasting away.

can't find the link. It was a long thread though with alot of discussions about these places. All I remember about Maravich's locker is that a door was embedded in the wall of the Coliseum. Because the paint job was the same throughout, you had to do some searching for the door, especially in the dark. And I think the OP mentioned something about going down some stairs once in the door, and that took you down to a locker room.

I snuck in with my girlfriend once late at night after hitting the bars. We did some exploring. I never found Pete's locker, but I can tell you it's an interesting place late at night. Definitely worth a look, but skip the stockyards.

I bet it was! It's sort of creepy in the daytime because it's like you're taken back to the 1960s. Interestingly, the speakers in the top of the Coliseum are the same ones that were there when Pete played. True story

I would love to find this door leading to the locker room. Do you think it's on the far end of the Coliseum towards the stockyard?

I remember climbing up there to see the pool when I was in school and thinking the exact same thing. Does anyone know why it was neglected like that in the first place? I've wondered similarly about why the reflecting pool and statues in the Enchanted Forest were done away with.

If you're able to find this thread, please let me know. Still looking for any and all information on this locker room!

it may be a classic thread...not sure. It's a thread I remember typing in to this day. I was a younger guy then, living in the Pentagon, and had nothing to do with my life except read td.com and explore campus...and pass classes. But yeah...the thread is from 2006.

I didn't go to LSU but as little as about 8 or 9 years ago that pool was still being used. We used to have high school swim practices there. Don't know what the full name of the complex was but we just called it the Huey P. I never saw it personally but I heard guys would always jump from the balconies on the second floor into the water.

Also, this could just be one of those Huey P Long urban legends but I always heard that when he built the pool he built it 51 yards (instead of 50) so that it would be the longest pool in the country. Consequently, when they would have high school state meets there back in the day (50s or 60s) they would have to throw a rope across one end of the pool to make it 50 yards.

I imagine it was problematic. Water fountains are high maintenance and the bigger it is, the more expensive it is. Not to mention what moronic things were done there in the party school heydays. Hell, the fountain in front of Dodson Auditorium has only been running for a few years now after being down for a long time from repeated battles with laundry detergent.
