Never quite reached the performance level that his athleticism would lead you to believe he’s capable. Not sure if it was coaching, scheme, mental, etc

Maybe I’m hung up on that Arky game a few years ago. Just felt he was very misused after freshman year. Better than the DB drafted yesterday I had never heard of.
That was a bad Arkansas team and that QB finished his college career with 54 passing attempts. That game resulted in comically miscalibrated expectations of him

Whenever someone gets hands on him, he’s done for that play. That’s not going to work in the NFL

Doesn’t attack the run well or recognize lanes

Not good at spying when asked to stay back

Doesn’t locate the ball well in coverage

Misses assignments regularly

Takes plays off regularly

Was he misused, or just not that good? We have enough film to know the answer to this. There isn’t a position for him because he doesn’t have a skillset of appeal anywhere on the field

That said, I’m sure the Cowboys will be retards and spend a day 3 pick on him

Sometimes he hustles, sometimes he doesn’t.
Perkins should have pursued the Runningback position.

He can run fast, but can't think on his feet with a lot of assignments.

Give him the football and let him RUN FAST with it.

That's what he should have done at LSU!

He might be a specialist 3rd down pass rusher, but he doesn't fit anywhere on the field.

He does not have a position. If he could cover he could be a strong safety or a nickel; to this point in time he has not shown that ability.

That was a historically bad Arkansas team. Arguably one of the worst SEC teams in recent memory.

Perkins should've been a running back.

a day 3 pick would be pretty good value for an athlete like Perkins for any team

They were all poor but it’s not like the staff and system held him back when his game was revealed as so flawed

Athleticism takes many forms. It’s great that he’s fast but he’s not really good at anything that benefits from it. That speed must be paired with something else or it’s useless. He doesn’t have the strength required to shed blocks as a pure pass rusher (which damn near every sack in the NFL entails) and he doesn’t have the ball skills to be effective in coverage

Add the mental lapses and there’s a reason there’s next to no buzz for him

What value does that athleticism provide a team when he’s so mediocre at everything else?

Is a random Olympic track star worth as much? Because he’ll dwarf Perkins on that front and be equally useless elsewhere

What the knock on this kid

1) misses more tackles than any player on the LSU team. Yes, he gets to the play a lot but worthless if you can't tackle consistently
2) lack of strength which explains 1) above. I think he did OK in bench press reps at the combine but it isn't translating to the football field
3) lacks football instincts...Whit Weeks has those instincts...Perkins does not
4) has no position and really is a tweener. Can't be LBer good enough due to previous points and isn't good enough in coverage to even be a safety

I have him 5th round...my brother says 7th.

Yep, take away his 2 fantastic Ark games and he was meh any other time. I will never forget his inability to get into the endzone on the OU INT which IMO cost LSU the game. He was lucky to even get the ball...a DL in the middle of the field deflected it to the sideline. And he STILL couldn't get the pick 6 when all he had to do was beat the QB. Spears didn't have any trouble on almost the exact same play vs Lagway with Florida.

Undersized, doesn’t have a clear cut role, very reactive, not very proactive, not highly disciplined, often doesn’t finish plays, sometimes doesn’t even start plays

Athleticism doesn’t count for much if you don’t have instincts to go with it.

None of those. He wasnt nearly as good as the majority of this board thought he was. Its the same story as Nuss.

This board will watch 10 plays and dismiss 99% of the game tape because of those 10 plays.

The knock is that he is and always has been a strong, fast, idiot. He is not football smart. Think Forest Gump but on defense. He isn’t the combination of Devin White and Tyrann Mathieu. He is just big and fast without the instincts of DE and TM. And he is a tweeter to boot … too small for linebacker, too big and unskilled for safety.
