I don't think it's as much about inside out as much as Les just preferred maulers for his style, and Guards fit that bill. We struggled to run the ball when Crowton tried to transition to a smaller line. I think Les decided to go all in on a massive line right then...right when offensive football in the college game started to change.

But Les has the greatest winning percentage ever....... He couldn't possibly have had time to micro manage the OL coach and have used archaic tactics and personnel schemes.....

A bunch of silly and immature posters. 1. Les Miles is gone...Let it go. 2. Cut Coach 'O' some slack. He had them ready and they got a big bowl win....enjoy a quit acting like a bunch of miserable people. 3. Recruiting is looking up....They will get there....quit being miserable people...classic tigerdroppings

That's a stupid conclusion.

We don't have good tackles because good tackles are hard to find and we've done a poor job at identifying those players.

The thought that this was a strategic decision is just dumb.

Orgeron grew up in Louisiana and is about as Louisiana as a person can possibly get. Why would it be hard to believe that LSU is his dream job?

Your argument doesn't stand. If so, why did a tackle (Pocic) play center for the last 2 years?

and start recruiting depth at tackle inward...This made so much sense just like LM has left the cookie jar half empty per other story written on tiger rag about talent
with this team now..patients my tiger friends Hope coach gets a fair shake with his dream job.

This doesn't make sense at all. This is not the NFL where you prioritize a position and your constraints are salary cap and a limited pool of talented players. All teams in the NFL build their team starting with the QB. From there some teams build from the tackle in and some from the center out. For example the Saints and Patriots build/built from the center out.

This is not how it works in college football. College football is not constrained by salary cap but they are constrained by a relative talent pool. Another way to put it is college coaches are not choosing the better guard over the next best tackle because of salary cap issues like the NFL. College coaches are taking both if they can.

I've heard Mike D. make this comment before concerning LSU. It makes no sense as applied to college football. However it makes perfect sense applied to the NFL.

How does one recruit from center out? I thought they would just try to get the best o linemen they could

Exactly.

That sucks.. since we really haven't had any extraordinary centers either.

This is a myth..
Our classes have ranked 3,6,2,6 in the past 4 years.. If that's half full... well damn..
I agree we're light at a few key positions (LB) but we've got more talent than all but maybe 4 teams in CFB.

LOL. Maybe air raid recruiting, but a run biased offense is built inside out, and grab a LT when a good one is available.
You'll likely waste a lot of time and resources if too much concern is spent on rare good LTs with no really valuable QB.
IIRC Center Pocic was excellent LT in HS, if that tells you staff's faith in QBs.

It is very difficult to nail down a true LT, but Les always built his line to secure running between the tackles. Pocic was great, but I think he'll move out to right side of line at next level.

Cookie jar half empty....LOL. At quarterback maybe. But then again, That jar been half full since Perriloux decided using a fake ID to get into the Belle was a good idea

I mean,it's crazy the previous coach recruited to his style of play. Big physical receivers to block, big bruising backs, big road graders on the oline.

Who does that? The nerve of that guy.
