No offense, but that's bull shite. LSU "fans" of today, in general, seem to have no memory of the 80s and 90s whatsoever. They bitch and moan after 10 win seasons.

And when the younger people are in their 40's and 50's they will say the same shite, that it was the good ole days when players could actually tackle and we were winning championships, and we had that crazy coach that ate grass.

the truth....they've just about ruined the game for me. we were lucky to see it or hear it in those days as (you said) the game had a flow and poignance was dictated by the continuous action.

get better, get ready...get even.

It's not even the same as it was in the mid 2000s.

Don't apologize to these STOOGES! Most of these punks don't even know what you are talking about. Thanks for reminding me of the GREAT John Ferguson and those thrilling radio calls!!

man, this is absolutely true...I just get so pissed when the game is interrupted and everyone stands around bullshitting for 10 minutes at a time....a solid hour of a 4 hour game is tv commercials...

I only get to one or(if I'm real lucky) two games a year. Live in California, never attended LSU (Mom's family is from Louisiana) but have been attending games since the 60's. For me, my children and my friends who make the trip, there is no place on earth that compares to Tiger Stadium. It could be the fact that it takes a year of planning to get to one game that makes it so special for us.

Has television made a difference? Don't know how it is back in Louisiana or the Gulf States, but here in the Bay Area, we will be able to see every LSU game this season but the Furman game. So if it's the same down there, TV coverage can cut into a fans feeling that they have to go to every game or they will miss out seeing their team play....I think it is probably the same with the top 10 major programs in the country that are always on TV because they are successful.

no offense, but that is the attitude the blue blood programs carry. I don't know why it's so hard to understand that the program you watched in the 80's and 90's is forever dead, and for the better. if bitching about fans leaving early is all we have to talk about going into week 5, then we're in the right place

Hearing that stadium erupt on an AM radio and John Ferguson calling the game was special.

Yeah, you got that right. I remember (as a little kid in the 1960's) my dad had an old clock radio with a really crisp sound - he would bring up to the dining room table on Saturday nights in the fall to listen to Tiger games. It was always intense.

Thanks for the story... you just reminded me to thank my dad for the gift he gave me and my brother as kids. We didnt go to every game but thats what made the radio experience a treasured memory!

The TV games back then were especially awesome if you couldnt be at the game in person.

The last game against "The Bear" was I think in '82?? Risher and company put a arse thumping on Walter Lewis and Bama. I remember watching this game with a group of friends. I think it was on Pay Per View... It felt so good that day after that beat down of Bama.

It was way more exciting on the radio when we were not this good! Beating Pat Dye Auburn teams was a huge party, and beating Alabama before we knew they would be shite for years after Stallings was exhilirating.

Probably was one of the old clock radios where the numbers were actually on small metal plates that flipped (unless it was one of the really old ones with the rotary clock).

I had one of that was very similar to this bad boy that I listened to a lot of games on:

no question tv has created a different kind of fan. it has GREATLY INCREASED the number of sidewalk fans; fans that have never been to tiger stadium much less to LSU. it, along with football video games, has also created the "knowledgable 15 yr old fan". you know, the kid that has never played organized football and knows it all. and the one that sees a play on tv (with it's very narrow, follow the ball view) and suddenly can critisize the coaches play call, and any of the 11 players on the field even if they did not come into view for that play.

another huge change is the cost to go to a game. the differnce is unbelievable. lastly, young peoples tailgating habits have also changed. i can never remember even one person "doing shots" or "funneling beer" during a tailgate. no wonder this type of fan doesn't even make the 3th qtr. we drank a lot but paced ourselves much better because we didn't do the "instant" blitz thing.

Next time pay attention when they show the student section. Literally 6 out of 10 kids are on a cell phone. Probably texting or playing with Instagram.
They fit just as nicely into the "Addict" category, as the Drug/Alcohol version. Just can't put those GD phones down.
