LSU has actually played A&M more than they have most SEC teams including Auburn and Florida. We go way back. It’s a rivalry. Don’t care what they say.
—————————

Nope, and I’d say Florida is more of a rivalry-

LSU has played Florida 68 times and all but 3 or 4 years since 1953.

We’ve played A&M 60 times, but there was a big gap between the time they joined the conference and the last time they played us.

Also, Florida/LSU is a competitive series. Since joining the conference, A&M not so much.

We’ve beat Florida 4 years in a row. It’s only been competitive since the 2000’s. The Florida series is not much bigger than the A&M series. Actually I think the Aggie game is bigger because we recruit the same kids. We don’t really get into recruiting wars with Florida.

There is nothing forced about the LSU/A&M rivalry. There is a lot of history between the schools, they are fairly close to each other, and SE texas and south Louisiana are intertwined due to industry.

On the other hand, Arkansas was 100% forced.

We will get the fAggies because Texas will be locked up with OU. All the other options are locked up except Arkansas but that’s a forced rivalry to begin with.

Which kinda sucks because Ive come to hate Texas 8&4, but I guess that’s the point.

If SEC ends up with 9 games, you will see a 3-6 format with 3 permanent rivals and 6 rotating.

This seems most likely to me. It’s basically the same as the “pods” format in the sense that you have 3 permanent rivals, play at least one home/away with everyone over a 4 year period, and use overall winning % as the selection criteria.

It still solves the problem for schools with more than one rivalry (Alabama and UGA in particular) but eliminates the issue of trying to force those rivalries on others for the sake of pods.

Arkansas is no more forced than A&M. LSU and Arkansas played annually from 1906-1936 in Little Rock and Shreveport. Arkansas has also been in the SEC since 1992. The SEC series looks much more competitive over that time than LSU-aTm. LSU leads 19-11 (if I counted right, never a given these days ).

LSU aTm has not been a competitive series, with the Aggies only winning twice. The 7 OT game that should have been an LSU victory IMO except for botched officiating and the covid year.

The SEC rescheduled LSU's traditional year end game vs Arkansas from the Friday after Thanksgiving in order to have LSU play aTm on thanksgiving in 2014. Thanksgiving had been the tradition day for the aTm-Texas game. This was not an LSU decision but an SEC decision. That sounds forced to me. On a side note, LSU did not schedule the home games on Thanksgiving.

LSU will remain on A&M's schedule before Texas does. IN fact, the Aggies did not want UTexass in the SEC at all much less on their schedule.

The only way losing to Ole Miss costs LSU is if it is a tie breaker scenario like 2003. LSU & Ole Miss tied for the SEC West Championship but LSU advanced to Atlanta by beating Ole Miss.

That is why we can lose to Florida every year!

Last time I checked it’s 2-2 since 2018. That’s pretty damn even. Making excuses for why we lost those two games is weak.
