They didn’t have the players to run either front, is what they don’t realize

The 4 guys they thought would start on the d-line in July are all gone

Plus Marcel Brooks who was going to play LB

Couple that with 3 LBs drafted & a 4th UDFA, and yea, you don’t have much to run either

Both the quotes from Bo and O in the op are true quotes.

LSU didn’t have the personnel to go to a full 4-3 this season.

The big plays LSU is giving up is on busted assignments that would be happening if you were in a 3-4 or a 4-3.

Thats not really the point. The point is that they are publicly disagreeing with each other. It’s embarrassing and shows they’re not on the same page.

Explosive plays would have occurred with either defense. Mute point

So if they don’t have the personnel to switch to a 4-3why switch to a 4-3, coach to the personnel you have.

This sounds like nothing more than excuse for piss poor coaching

Downvoted for not knowing it's "moot"...not "mute". Dumbass.

They’re both not wrong. At least O isn’t making an excuse here, calling a spade a spade.

Because Orgeron wanted to recreate his dream world of USC circa early 2000's or the early 90's Miami teams where the DL was terrorizing backfields. He has so (relatively) little understanding of the game on a detailed level that it never occurred to him this group of players may not be suited to play that particular defense. Particularly the DT's who are really just massive space/block eaters...not pass rushers. It's why Ika left.

When Aranda arrived in 2016 he was a 3-4 guy. But he was also smart enough to know he didn't have ideal 3-4 talent on the roster. Thus, he played more 4-3 in 2016 than he probably preferred. It was what was best for the team. Miles wasn't a "defensive guy", so Aranda had a lot of authority on the defensive approach. Here, Bo has been brought into execute O's outdated dream. He doesn't have the leeway to say "Coach. Perhaps your personnel is not quite right to do it that way."

So O was too overconfident in thinking that a switch to the 4-3 would be no problem.

Winning the title last year went to his head

Another case of O meddling with his staff. What a surprise.

One heartbeat ? The right side of the brain isn't talking to the left side. The HC, with zero Coordinator's experience, telling the Coordinator he doesn't know what he's talking about.
